    Sammanfattning : Metals play a crucial role in cellular biology. Bulk and trace metals such as calcium and manganese regulate a plethora of cellular processes ranging from signaling and oxidative stress to proteostasis and energy metabolism. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Surface reactivity, stability, and mobility of metal nanoparticles in aqueous solutions : Influence of natural organic matter and implications on particle dispersion preparation

    Författare :Sulena Pradhan; Inger Odnevall Wallinder; Jonas Hedberg; Eva Blomberg; Emma Strömberg; Kerstin Forsberg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nanoparticles; freshwater; di-hydroxybenzoic acid; humic acid; copper; aluminium; manganese; dissolution; agglomeration; stability; complexation; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The growing development of nanotechnology has resulted in an increased use of nanoparticles (NPs) in various applications ranging from medicine, military, to daily consumer products. There is a concern that NPs can be dispersed into the environment in various ways, for example to air and water during manufacture, use, incineration or recycling of products and thus pose a risk to health and the environment. Sammanfattning : In order to improve the diagnosis of coronary artery disease, better methods for detection of myocardial perfusion defects would be useful. One of the methods used for myocardial perfusion evaluation today is magnetic resonance imaging. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Stainless Steel in Biological Environments – Relation between Material Characteristics, Surface Chemistry and Toxicity

    Författare :Yolanda Hedberg; Inger Odnevall Wallinder; Sasha Omanovich; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Triggered by the regulatory need of the industry to demonstrate safe use of their alloy products from an environmental and health perspective, and by the significant lack of metal release data and its correlation to material and surface characteristics for iron- and chromium-based alloys, a highly interdisciplinary in-depth research effort was undertaken to assess the relation between material/surface characteristics and toxicity with main emphasis on stainless steel alloys. This thesis focuses predominantly on studies made on AISI 316L both as massive sheet and as powder particles, but includes also results for other stainless steel grades and reference metals and metal oxides.
