  1. 1. Proteostasis and Aging in Saccharomyces cerevisiae - The role of a Peroxiredoxin

    Författare :Sarah Hanzén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Aging; Caloric restriction; Oxidative stress; Peroxiredoxins; Proteostasis; Protein aggregates; Ubiquitin-proteasome system;

    Sammanfattning : Aging is characterized by a progressive decline in physiological functions that limits biological processes, increases the risk of disease, and ultimately leads to death. At the cellular level, aging is associated with accumulation of damaged components, including proteins, indicating that protein homeostasis (or proteostasis) fails to maintain the integrity and functionality of the proteome as cells age. 2. 2. Peroxiredoxins in Redox Signaling and Aging

    Författare :Friederike Roger; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Aging; Peroxiredoxin; Redox Signaling; Caloric restriction; light sensing;

    Sammanfattning : Peroxiredoxins have emerged as conserved modulators of the rate of aging in yeast and multicellular organisms and play a role in lifespan extension through the anti-aging intervention caloric restriction. Yet, it is not clear through what mechanism peroxiredoxins extend lifespan. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The informational value and usefulness of serum retinoid measurements. Studies on biological variation, including infancy and pregnancy, and influence of fasting, antiepileptic drugs and ethanol

    Författare :Maria Berggren Söderlund; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; vitamin A deficiency; teratogenicity; ethanol; antiepileptic drugs; caloric restriction; infant; pregnant; biological variation; 13-cis retinoic acid; all-trans retinoic acid; Vitamin A; retinol;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of these studies were to evaluate retinoid measurements, more specifically the performance of all-trans and 13-cis retinoic acids methods in clinical experimental settings and to evaluate the informational value of these measurements in relation to S-Retinol. Biological and analytical variations for retinoids were evaluated for healthy subjects. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Studies of Budding Yeast Transcription Factors Acting Downstream of Nutrient Signaling Pathways

    Författare :Niklas Nordberg; Hans Ronne; Anders Blomberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Budding yeast; nutrient signaling; glucose repression; aging; caloric restriction; JmjC; histone demethylation; Mig1; Mig2; Mig3; Gis1; Rph1; Molekylär genetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Being able to respond to extracellular cues such as nutrients and growth factors is of vital importance to all living cells. Pathways have therefore evolved which can sense the extracellular status, transmit a signal through the cell and affect gene expression, which ultimately enables adaptation. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Metal homeostasis as critical determinant for cellular fitness

    Författare :Jutta Diessl; Sabrina Büttner; Rajini Rao; Stockholms universitet; []
