11. Impact of renal dysfunction on serum Prostate-Specific Antigen
Sammanfattning : Measurement of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in blood is an important tool in detection for prostate cancer. PSA occurs in several molecular forms in blood: mainly as a free form with a molecular mass of 28 kDa; and as PSA complexed to alpha-1-antichymotrypsin, complexed PSA, with a molecular mass of 90 kDa. 12. Local regulation of the endogenous fibrinolytic system in man
Sammanfattning : The physiologically most important activator of intravascular fibrinolysis is tissue-type plasminogen activator (tPA). The endothelium synthesises and stores tPA and regulated release of the enzyme is an important mechanism for removal of fibrin from blood vessels. Plasminogen activator inhibitor type-1 (PAI-1) is the main inhibitor of tPA. LÄS MER
13. The role of peridontitis and hepatocyte growth factor in systemic inflammation
Sammanfattning : An essential goal in addressing inflammation is the return of tissue to homeostasis. Persistent infections often cause prolonged response and accumulation of immune cells, inducing imbalance in pro- and anti-inflammatory mediators, tissue destruction, and chronic inflammation. 14. Renal dysfunction in heart failure : insights on prevalence and prognosis
Sammanfattning : Background: Kidney disease is common in heart failure (HF) and has been found to be associated with worse outcomes. The impact of different degrees of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in HF, as well as the link to, and impact of CKD in HF with reduced (HFrEF), the newly defined mid-range (HFmrEF) and preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) have been uncertain. 15. Diagnostic and prognostic value of proteinuria in chronic renal diseases
Sammanfattning : To the extent that increased urinary protein excretion is an indicator of alterations of the glomerular capillary wall (GCW) and appearance of tubulointerstitial damage, proteinuria can be a good marker of the overall severity of the glomerular and tubulointerstitial damage, and therefore, the prognosis of glomerular diseases. Studies I, II, and III show that it is the type of proteinuria, rather than the degree of albuminuria, that predicts the progression in renal, proteinuric diseases. LÄS MER
