  1. 1. Renal Dysfunction and Cardiovascular Disease

    Författare :Inga Soveri; Bengt Fellström; Lars Lind; Ola Samuelsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Internal medicine; renal dysfunktion; cardiovascular disease; risk factor; mortality; endothelial dysfunction; arterial stiffness; oxidative stress; inflammation; renal transplantation; haemodialysis; general population; Invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Kidney dysfunction increases cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. The mechanisms for the risk increase seem to involve a combination of traditional and non-traditional CVD risk factors.We studied renal dysfunction as CVD and mortality risk factor in middle-aged men free from diabetes and CVD. 2. 2. Impact of renal dysfunction on serum Prostate-Specific Antigen

    Författare :Laila Bruun; Internmedicin - epidemiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Urologi; hK2; Urology; intra-individual variation; elimination; peritoneal dialysis; renal dysfunction; kidney transplantation; hemodialysis; nefrologi; nephrology; PSA;

    Sammanfattning : Measurement of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in blood is an important tool in detection for prostate cancer. PSA occurs in several molecular forms in blood: mainly as a free form with a molecular mass of 28 kDa; and as PSA complexed to alpha-1-antichymotrypsin, complexed PSA, with a molecular mass of 90 kDa. 3. 3. Low-Density Lipoprotein Oxidation and Renal Dysfunction : New Markers of Poor Prognosis in Patients with Unstable Coronary Artery Disease

    Författare :Nina Johnston; Lars Wallentin; Tomas Jernberg; Agneta Siegbahn; Lena Jonasson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; myocardial infarction; unstable angina; oxidized low-density lipoprotein; renal function; prognosis; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : In patients with unstable coronary artery disease (CAD) biochemical markers are emerging as useful tools in clinical management. In this thesis we studied the use of markers of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation and renal function. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Renal dysfunction and protection in cardiovascular surgery

    Författare :Anders Bergman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Acute Renal Failure; Anesthesia; Atrial Natriuretic Peptide; Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide; Calcium Antagonists; Diltiazem; Heart Surgery; Postoperative Renal Dysfunction; Vascular Surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Purpose: This thesis is focused on studies of postoperative renal dysfunction (PRD), and on renal effects and possible prophylactic potentials of three vasoactive substances, calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), and the calcium channel antagonist diltiazem. Methods: In paper I the medical records of 1 030 consecutive cardiothoracic surgery patients were evaluated and glomerular filtration calculated from serum creatinine levels. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Hyaluronan and Renal Fluid Handling : Studies during Normal and Pathological Conditions of Renal Function

    Författare :Viktoria Göransson; Mats Rundgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; CD44; gerbils; hyaluronan; ischemia-reperfusion; kidney; osmolality; oxygen tension; rat; renomedullary interstitial cells; water; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The kidney is the major organ responsible for the regulation of the composition and volume of the body fluids, which is essential for homeostasis. The glycosaminoglycan hyaluronan (HA), with extreme water-binding capacity, is present in the interstitium of the kidney with a heterogenous distribution. LÄS MER
