  1. 21. Model Studies of Electron Transfer and Reaction Dynamics at Surfaces

    Författare :Johan Strömquist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dissociation; desorption; oxidation; hot precursors; surface chemical reaction; chemiluminescence; surface harpooning; charge transfer; electron emission; transient mobility; non-adiabaticity;

    Sammanfattning : Charge-transfer is of key importance in many physical, chemical and biological processes, including surface reactions. This thesis consists of several theories for and model studies of surface reactions that are initiated by electron transfer between the surface to a molecule. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Fingerprints of light-induced molecular transients : from quantum chemical models of ultrafast x-ray spectroscopy

    Författare :Jesper Norell; Michael Odelius; Sang-Kil Son; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; time-resolved x-ray spectroscopy; quantum chemistry; electronic structure; multi-configurational self-consistent field; density functional theory; molecular dynamics; Born-Oppenheimer dynamics; non-adiabatic dynamics; proton-transfer; charge-transfer; solvatization; Dyson orbital; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Absorption of sunlight generates renewable electricity and powers the growth of plants, but also causes severe damage both to synthetic materials and biological tissue. The wildly varying outcomes of these light-induced processes are ultimately determined by much slighter differences in their underlying reaction pathways, induced by the transient properties of short-lived and miniscule molecules; a powerful approach to their detection and characterization is offered by ultrafast x-ray spectroscopy, with identification of spectral fingerprints and further guidance from quantum chemical models. 3. 23. Electron and Energy Transfer in Supramolecular Complexes Designed for Artificial Photosynthesis

    Författare :Helena Berglund Baudin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; artificial photosynthesis; electron transfer; energy transfer; ruthenium; manganese; Fysik; Physics; Fysik; Physical Chemistry; fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : In the society of today the need for alternative energy sources is increasing. The construction of artificial devices for the conversion of sunlight into electricity or fuel seems very attractive from an environmental point of view, since these devices are based on processes that does not necessarily generate any harmful biproducts. 4. 24. Molecular machinery of a membrane-bound proton pump : Studies of charge transfer reactions in cytochrome c oxidase

    Författare :Emelie Svahn; Peter Brzezinski; Ville Kaila; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; membrane protein; respiration; redox reaction; cytochrome aa3; cytochrome c oxidase; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : In cellular respiration, electron transfer from the breakdown of foodstuff is coupled to the formation of an electrochemical proton gradient. This is accomplished through proton translocation by respiratory complexes, and the proton gradient is subsequently used e.g. to drive ATP production. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Towards Conduction Band Mediated Multi-electron Transfer: Spectroscopic Studies of Photosensitizer-semiconductor-acceptor Assemblies

    Författare :Elin Sundin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Solar fuels; charge separation; dye-sensitized; semiconductor thin films; electron transfer;

    Sammanfattning : Converting solar energy into a storable form in chemical bonds, i.e., generating solar fuels, is a promising strategy for producing renewable fuels. This however comes with several challenges that need to be solved before generation of solar fuels can become a reality. LÄS MER
