1. Multicomponent Catalytic Reactions : Theoretical and Experimental Studies
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, Density Functional Theory (DFT) methods have been applied to study the mechanisms of three different multicomponent organic reactions. Also, a new synthetic procedure for the preparation of quinolinium salts is presented, and its mechanism also studied by DFT calculations. LÄS MER
2. Production and transformation of organic compounds from renewable feedstock : Catalytic approaches
Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on the development of strategies for lignocellulosic biomass valorization. The thesis consists of two parts. The first part of the presented work is related to the catalytic fractionation of biomass (lignin-first approach) and the production of monomeric compounds from lignocellulose. 3. Catalytic reactions with palladium supported on mesocellular foam : Applications in hydrogenation, isomerization, and C-C bond forming reactions
Sammanfattning : The major part of this thesis concerns the development of catalytic methodologies based on palladium nanoparticles immobilized on aminopropyl-functionalized siliceous mesocellular foam (Pd0-AmP-MCF). The catalytic activity of the precursor to the nanocatalyst, PdII-AmP-MCF is also covered by this work. LÄS MER
4. Reactions of aqueous radiolysis products with oxide surfaces : An experimental and DFT study
Sammanfattning : The reactions between aqueous radiolysis products and oxide surfaces are important in nuclear technology in many ways. In solid-liquid systems, they affect (and at the same time are dependent on) both the solution chemistry and the stability of materials under the influence of ionizing radiation. LÄS MER
5. Atom and Group Transfer Reactions Involving High-valent Iron Complexes
Sammanfattning : Iron enzymes play critical roles in biological oxidation reactions by utilizing highly reactive high-valent iron intermediates, such as FeIV=O, FeV(O)(OH), and FeIV=NR species, for catalytic reactions. These intermediates exhibit remarkable catalytic behavior with high reactivities and high regio- and stereospecificity in various biochemical reactions. LÄS MER
