1. Asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of ketones : Catalyst development and mechanistic investigation
Sammanfattning : The development of ligands derived from natural amino acids for asymmetric transfer hydrogenation (ATH) of prochiral ketones is described herein. In the first part, reductions performed in alcoholic media are examined, where it is found that amino acid-derived hydroxamic acids and thioamides, respectively, are simple and versatile ligands that in combination with [RhCp*Cl2]2 efficiently catalyze this particular transformation. 2. Transition metal-catalyzed allylic and vinylic functionalization : Method development and mechanistic investigations
Sammanfattning : The use of small molecule building blocks in, for example, pharmaceutical research and new material development, creates a need for new and improved organic synthesis methods. The use of transition metals as mediators and catalysts opens up new reaction pathways that have made the synthesis of completely new compounds possible as well as greatly improved the synthetic routes to known compounds. 3. Samarium(II)-mediated Reactions in Organic Synthesis - Method Development and Mechanistic Investigation
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development of methods using divalent samarium reagents in organic synthesis. The main focus is placed on functional group reductions, but reductive formation of carbon-carbon bonds has also been investigated. LÄS MER
4. Modeling and Mechanistic Investigation of α-synuclein aggregation
Sammanfattning : Our understanding of the α-synuclein aggregation process and the consequences thereof is currently limited, which in turn prevents the development of targeted therapeutic interventions. The work presented here, as a part of this thesis, is focused on expanding our understanding of the molecular events involved in α-synuclein aggregation. LÄS MER
5. Organocatalytic Acylation for the Kinetic Resolution of Secondary Aryl Alcohols : Synthetic Applications and Mechanistic Studies
Sammanfattning : The research described in this thesis focuses on the catalytic acylative kinetic resolution (KR) of aromatic secondary alcohols, using a planar-chiral 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine (DMAP) organocatalyst. In the first part of this thesis, the substrate scope of the above mentioned process was expanded to aromatic secondary alcohols that contain an extra functional group in the alkyl moiety, such as 1,2-azido alcohols, 2-hydroxy-2-aryl-ethylphosphonates and 2-hydroxy-2-aryl esters.
