  1. 6. Nitric oxide production by the intestinal mucosa during hypoperfusion

    Författare :Johan Snygg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nitric oxide; nitric oxide synthase; intestinal epithelium; hemorrhagic shock; cardiac tamponade; septic shock; lower body negative pressure; splanchnic circulation; substrate; laser Doppler;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis is based on the concept that gastrointestinal blood hypoperfusion is a common phenomenon associated with critical illness. Furthermore, the development of the multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) is proposed to be initiated by gastrointestinal mucosal barrier dysfunction, allowing intestinal luminal contents to penetrate into the tissue and activate a systemic inflammatory response. 2. 7. Secundum atrial septal defect in the adult. Clinical, haemodynamic and electrophysiological aspects

    Författare :Ulf Thilén; Kardiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MRI; clinical outcome; atrial fibrillation; Atrial septal defect; atrial conduction; remodelling.;

    Sammanfattning : Atrial septal defect (ASD) is the most common congenital heart malformation diagnosed in adult life. In this thesis important clinical, haemodynamic and electrophysiological aspects of ASD in the adult are explored. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Polymer-shelled Ultrasound Contrast Agents : Characterization and Application

    Författare :Dmitry Grishenkov; Leif Kari; Lars-Åke Brodin; Michel Versluis; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ultrasound; contrast agents; microbubbles; polymer; perfusion; Acoustics; Akustik; Material physics with surface physics; Materialfysik med ytfysik; Cardiovascular medicine; Kardiovaskulär medicin; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Ultrasound-based imaging technique is probably the most used approach for rapid investigationand monitoring of anatomical and physiological conditions of internal organs and tissues.Ultrasound-based techniques do not require the use of ionizing radiation making the tests anexceptionally safe and painless. 4. 9. Metabolic risk markers and relative survival in patients with aortic stenosis requiring surgery

    Författare :Anders Holmgren; Ulf Näslund; Stefan Söderberg; Michael Henein; Rune Haaverstad; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; aortic stenosis; aortic valve surgery; coronary artery disease; prospective cohort study; risk markers; lipoprotein a ; apolipoproteins; proteomics; troponin T; C-reactive protein; relative survival; observed survival; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Aortic stenosis (AS) is the most common valve disorder requiring surgery in developed countries. The etiology of AS is only partly known.  Identification of new biomarkers in prospective studies could lead to novel insights in the etiology of AS, and possibly lead to improved clinical management. 5. 10. Salt-inducible kinase 1 : a novel regulator within a cell sodium-sensing network

    Författare :Karin Stenström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Na ; K -ATPase; -adducin; Milan hypertensive and normotensive strain of rats; hypertension; angiotensin II; cardiac hypertrophy; myocyte enhancer factor-2 and nuclear factor of activated T-cells;

    Sammanfattning : Na+, K+-ATPase (NK) is expressed in all animal cells and plays a crucial role in cellular ion homeostasis. The NK activity is tightly regulated by specific signaling networks that must be well controlled in time and space (at the plasma membrane or in the intracellular compartments) to guarantee the specificity of the physiological response.
