  1. 1. Studies on Potency and breadth of HIV-1, HIV-2 and SIV neutralizing antibody responses

    Författare :Gülsen Özkaya Sahin; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; HIV-1; HIV-2; SIV; envelope; neutralizing antibody; breadth; potency; IgG; IgA; complement; antibody-dependent complement-mediated inactivation; virus evolution; diversity; divergence;

    Sammanfattning : Even though the relative contribution of neutralizing antibodies (Nab) to prevent progression to AIDS during HIV-1 infection is still unclear, the induction of broadly NAb directed against HIV-1 through vaccination is considered to represent an important goal for the development of HIV-1 vaccines. Factors contributing to the induction of NAb may include the strength and duration of antigenic stimulation, the preservation of CD4+ T and B cells, the conformation of the HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein complex (Env), and the evolution of Env during infection. 2. 2. Evolutionary and mechanistic aspects of insect host plant preference

    Författare :Alexander Schäpers; Niklas Janz; Steven Heard; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; host plant choice; host range; diet breadth; butterfly; oviposition; specialist; generalist; insect-plant interaction; search behavior; olfaction; decision making; evolution; parasite-host interaction; zoologisk ekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Plant feeding insects comprise about 25% of all animal species on earth and play an important role in all ecosystems. Although we understand that their association with plants is a key-factor driving the diversification in this group, we still have large gaps in our knowledge of the underlying processes of this relationship. 3. 3. Dynamics of omnivorous crayfish in freshwater ecosystems

    Författare :Karin Olsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; crayfish; freshwater ecosystems; niche width; growth rate; stable isotope analysis; recruitment; RNA:DNA analysis; Ecology; food availability and quality; trophic position; population dynamics;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I examine the dynamics of crayfish in streams and lakes. I have studied the influence of abiotic and biotic factors on abundance, growth, trophic position, niche breadth, and recruitment of crayfish, by conducting field studies, an outdoor channel experiment and timeseries analysis. 4. 4. Cellular and molecular mechanisms for induction of broad anti-viral B cell responses through vaccination

    Författare :Sebastian Ols; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Viral infections contribute to significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. The immense diversity across and within viral families poses a substantial challenge for the development of prophylaxis and therapeutics. Vaccines are one of the most effective medical interventions to prevent infectious diseases. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Research communication in the climate crisis : Open letters and the mobilization of information

    Författare :Carin Graminius; Kultur och Samhälle Informationspraktiker: Kommunikation; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; open letters; research communication; climate change;

    Sammanfattning : What happens to researchers when the topic they study poses an existential threat to the world as we know it? When communication on the topic is politically polarized, but at the same time institutionally encouraged and existentially needed? By what means do researchers come to navigate this complex communication environment? The climate crisis and changing social, political, and academic conditions bring such questions to the forefront in researchers’ public communication on climate issues. This thesis engages with open letters as a form of research communication to explore the practices climate scholars engage in to convey information and inspire urgent action in climate matters.
