1. Fear, Startle, and Fear-Potentiated Startle : Probing Emotion in the Human Brain
Sammanfattning : The present thesis explored the neurobiological basis of three aspects of defense behaviors in humans. Positron emission tomography methodology was used, and changes in regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) were measured as an index of neural activity. LÄS MER
2. Development and Application of Software Tools for Mass Spectrometry Imaging
Sammanfattning : Mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) has been extensively used to produce qualitative maps of distributions of proteins, peptides, lipids, neurotransmitters, small molecule pharmaceuticals and their metabolites directly in biological tissue sections. Moreover, during the last 10 years, there has been growing demand to quantify target compounds in tissue sections of various organs. LÄS MER
3. On Brain Oedema
Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury and bacterial meningitis may at a glance appear as two different disease entities. The host reaction, however, to both trauma and infection involves a strong inflammatory response, with the classical symptomology of rubor, tumor, calor, dolor et functio laesa. LÄS MER
4. Train your brain : updating, transfer, and neural changes
Sammanfattning : An initial aim of this thesis was to determine whether training of a specific executive function (updating) produces improvements in performance on trained and transfer tasks, and whether the effects are maintained over time. Neural systems underlying training and transfer effects were also investigated and one question considered is whether transfer depends on general or specific neural overlap between training and transfer tasks. 5. Diving and the brain
Sammanfattning : Abstract Introduction There are reports that long-term diving is associated with cognitive impairments. This raises the question if diving itself is harmful to the brain in the absence of decompression sickness or hypoxia. LÄS MER
