  1. 1. Train your brain : updating, transfer, and neural changes

    Författare :Erika Dahlin; Lars Nyberg; Anna Stigsdotter Neely; Torkel Klingberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; cognitive training; executive functioning; transfer; fMRI; brain system; young adults; elderly; practice; neural correlates; individual differences; Experimental brain research; Experimentell hjärnforskning; Cognitive science; Kognitionsforskning; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : An initial aim of this thesis was to determine whether training of a specific executive function (updating) produces improvements in performance on trained and transfer tasks, and whether the effects are maintained over time. Neural systems underlying training and transfer effects were also investigated and one question considered is whether transfer depends on general or specific neural overlap between training and transfer tasks. 2. 2. Neural correlates of irrelevant speech

    Författare :Jens Gisselgård; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The irrelevant speech effect refers to a reduction in the immediate serial recall of lists of presented items when irrelevant auditory material is presented together with the items to be memorized. The ability to ignore irrelevant distractors is vital in increasingly demanding work environments and the capability to keep information in and out of mind is central in human information processing. 3. 3. Electrophysiological correlates of consciousness

    Författare :Rasmus Eklund; Stefan Wiens; Mats Nilsson; Antti Revonsuo; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; neural correlates of consciousness; electroencephalography; event-related potentials; visual awareness negativity; auditory awareness negativity; recurrent processing; phenomenal consciousness; access consciousness; Psychology; psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : How does the brain enable us to experience seeing or hearing a stimulus? If a stimulus is repeatedly presented at the awareness threshold, subjects will report that they are aware of the stimulus on half of the presentations. Electroencephalography (EEG) can be used to non-invasively record neural activity as event-related potentials (ERPs). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Neural correlates of diverse navigational strategies

    Författare :Marcel Sayre; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; central complex; connectome; path integration; bees; ants; neuroethology; neuroscience;

    Sammanfattning : Insects have evolved diverse and remarkable strategies for navigating in various ecologies all over the world. In particular, central place foragers, such as bees and ants, have become renowned for their fascinating navigational capabilities. At the heart of insect navigation lies a brain area known as the central complex (CX). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Neurocognitive Foundations of Child and Adult Number Processing : Neural Correlates and Functional Circuits Across Typical Development

    Författare :Mikael Skagenholt; Ulf Träff; Kenny Skagerlund; Karin Kucian; Linköpings universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : The ability to mentally represent the exact numerosity of up to four perceived objects, as well as approximately estimating differences in numerical magnitude, appears to constitute a core-cognitive number sense. Symbolic representations of number (e.g. LÄS MER
