1. Probiotics and berry-associated polyphenols: catabolism and antioxidative effects
Sammanfattning : Oxidative stress can cause damage to DNA, proteins and lipids and is associated with inflammation and various human diseases as cancer, atherosclerosis, and autoimmune diseases. Polyphenol-rich diet, such as fruits and berries, may act as antioxidants and prevent oxidative stress and, thereby, associated diseases. LÄS MER
2. Interactions between gray-sided voles (Clethrionomys rufocanus) and vegetation in the Fennoscandian tundra
Sammanfattning : I have, in this thesis, studied the interactions between gray-sided voles (Clethrionomys rufocanus) and tundra vegetation, on islands in, and mainland sites close to the lake Iešjávri, in northern Norway. As isolated islands are virtually free of predation, I have been able to compare plant-herbivore interactions in the presence and absence of predators. LÄS MER
3. Berries in Prevention of Metabolic Disease – focus on obesity, diabetes and gut microbiota

4. Supercritical fluid extraction of bioactive compounds from berry seeds
Sammanfattning : Industrial processing of berries into food and beverages generates seeds as a by-product. Most of these seeds are treated as waste even though they contain valuable biological compounds. An approach to adding value to the process is to extract these compounds from the seeds. LÄS MER
5. Chemical signals in interactions between Hylobius abietis and associated bacteria
