  1. 1. Identification of bacteria associated with malaria mosquitoes - Their characterisation and potential use

    Författare :Jenny Lindh; Ingrid Faye; Marcelo Jacobs-Lorena; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Malaria; mosquito; Anopheles; bacteria; paratransgenics; semiochemicals; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : The use of transformed bacteria to stop or kill disease-causing agents in the gut of vector insects is called paratransgenics. Two of the major steps in creating a paratransgenic Anopheles mosquito, unable to spread the Plasmodium parasites that cause malaria, are to find a bacterium suitable for the purpose and a way to introduce the transformed bacterium into mosquitoes in the field. 2. 2. Chemical signals in interactions between Hylobius abietis and associated bacteria

    Författare :Karolin Axelsson; Jenny Lindh; Anna-Karin Borg-Karlson; Gunaratna Kuttuva Rajarao; Benedicte Albrectsen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Pine weevil; Hylobius; Rahnella; Pseudomonas; bacteria; fungi; metabolites; 2-methoxyphenol; 2-phenylethanol; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The pine weevil (Hylobius abietis L.) is one of the two topmost economically important insect pests in Swedish conifer forests. The damage increase in areas were the silvicultural practice is to use clear cuttings were the insects gather and breed. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Sample preparation and analysis of metabolites from plants in the families of Cyperaceae, Poaceae and Apiaceae

    Författare :Linus Svenberg; Åsa Emmer; Jenny Lindh; Margareta Sandahl; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gas chromatography; Mass spectrometry; Ultrasound assisted extraction; Solid-phase microextraction; Volatile compounds; Allelopathy; Bioassay; Gaskromatografi; Masspektrometri; Ultraljudsassisterad extraktion; fastfas-mikroextraktion; Flyktiga ämnen; Allelopati; Bioanalys; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : An important aspect of understanding how plants effect their environmentis the study of volatile compounds and how these influence interactions between plants and other living organisms. The study of these secondary metabolites from plants can be used in practical applications, such as behaviour control of insects, and is an important part in the search for novel compounds that can be used to influence the behaviour of disease spreading vectors.
