31. Measurement of primary DNA damage in individual cells from humans and mice using the alkaline single cell gel electrophoresis assay
Sammanfattning : Primary DNA damage is considered to be an important step in the development of tumours and itmay also serve as a biomarker of genotoxic stress. Measurement of DNA strand breaks in peripherallymphocytes can yield useful information about the suitability of these cells for biomonitoring purposesand subsequently risk assessment. LÄS MER
32. Ecotoxicological studies on giant clams (Tridacnidae) : Environmental problems and future concerns
Sammanfattning : Giant clams (Tridacnidae; Bivalvia) are described as important framework builders on coral reefs in the Indo-Pacific region. They are phototrophic as they are associated with primary producing zooxanthellae. Populations are low due to over-exploitation and most species are now endangered in many areas. LÄS MER
33. Bioactivation and binding of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in blood vessel endothelia
Sammanfattning : Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are widespread environmental pollutants formed by incomplete combustion of organic materials such as fossil fuels and wood. Experimental and epidemiological studies indicate that PAHs may be involved in the development of cardiovascular disease. LÄS MER
34. Carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons : theoretical, molecular, in vitro and cellular characterization of biotransformation and DNA damage
Sammanfattning : Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are widespread mutagenic and carcinogenic environmental pollutants, which require metabolic activation to electrophilic intermediates and subsequent covalent binding to critical targets in DNA to elicit their biological activity. Bayand fjord-region diol epoxides (DEs) have been identified as the ultimate mutagenic and carcinogenic metabolites of PAHs. LÄS MER
35. HPRT mutational spectra and microsatellite DNA instability in HNPCC and lung cancer patients
Sammanfattning : The, general aims of this work have been to explore the use of microsatellite DNA length variation and mutational spectra of the hypoxanthine guanine phosphoribosyltransferase (HPRT) locus in T-cells as tools for a better understanding of human somatic mutagenesis in vivo. In particular (a) how inherited mismatch repair (MMR) deficiency may affect the stability of microsatellite DNA and the mutational spectrum at the HPRT locus, and (b) how the mutational spectrum at the HPRT locus is influenced by smoking, and by predisposition to lung cancer among never smokers.
