  1. 1. HPRT mutational spectra and microsatellite DNA instability in HNPCC and lung cancer patients

    Författare :Peter Hackman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Somatic gene mutation; mutational spectra; HPRT gene; lung cancer; smoking; hMLH1 gene; HNPCC; microsatellite instability; mismatch repair; T-cells;

    Sammanfattning : The, general aims of this work have been to explore the use of microsatellite DNA length variation and mutational spectra of the hypoxanthine guanine phosphoribosyltransferase (HPRT) locus in T-cells as tools for a better understanding of human somatic mutagenesis in vivo. In particular (a) how inherited mismatch repair (MMR) deficiency may affect the stability of microsatellite DNA and the mutational spectrum at the HPRT locus, and (b) how the mutational spectrum at the HPRT locus is influenced by smoking, and by predisposition to lung cancer among never smokers. 2. 2. Blood- and tumor-based analyses for improved prognostics in lung cancer

    Författare :Sofi Isaksson; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Lung cancer is a common cancer type associated with poor prognosis. Even in the group of patients with earlystage tumors, for which curative treatment is possible, lung cancer recurrence is frequent. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The role of MTH1 in ultraviolet radiation-induced mutagenesis

    Författare :Asal Fotouhi; Siamak Haghdoost; Harry Vrieling; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ultraviolet radiation; MTH1; reactive oxygen species; 8-oxo-dGTP; 2-OH-dATP; micronucleus; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Ultraviolet radiation (UVR) is known to be highly mutagenic. What types of DNA lesions that are induced by different UVR wavelengths are still a matter of debate. UVR induces mutagenesis mostly by the formation of photoproducts and the induction of reactive oxygen species (ROS). LÄS MER

  4. 4. The role of p53 in tumor progression and prognosis in patients with primary colorectal cancer

    Författare :Ann Forslund; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; p53; colorectal cancer; prognosis; mutation;

    Sammanfattning : Mutation in TP53 is the most common genetic alteration in human cancer. Alterations in p53 has mostly been related to poor prognosis in colorectal cancer, but this observation has not always been confirmed. The aim of the present study was to analyse the role of p53 in tumor progression and prognosis in colorectal cancer. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Mechanisms and Dynamics of Carbapenem Resistance in Escherichia coli

    Författare :Marlen Adler; Linus Sandegren; Josep Casadesús; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; carbapenem; antibiotic resistance; fitness cost; ESBLs; penicillin-binding proteins; gene amplification;

    Sammanfattning : The emergence of extended spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) producing Enterobacteriaceae worldwide has led to an increased use of carbapenems and may drive the development of carbapenem resistance. Existing mechanisms are mainly due to acquired carbapenemases or the combination of ESBL-production and reduced outer membrane permeability. LÄS MER
