1. Quantum and Ballistic Nanodevices
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, electron transport in quantum and ballistic devices was studied. The devices studied here were quantum wires, planar quantum dots, ballistic rectifiers, artificial functional materials, and three-terminal ballistic junctions. The possible application of such devices in the future nanoelectronics was also investigated. LÄS MER
2. Quantum electronic transport in low-dimensional semiconductors
Sammanfattning : Electronic transport is studied at low temperatures in two-dimensional electron gases (2DEGs) and in mesoscopic semiconductor microstructures. The method of microwave-detection of the Shubnikov-de Haas effect for the contact-free characterisation of transport properties of 2DEGs is explored using both magnetic-field modulation and light-induced carrier modulation. 3. Graphene Hot-electron Transistors
Sammanfattning : Graphene base transistors (GBTs) have been, recently, proposed to overcome the intrinsic limitations of the graphene field effect transistors (GFETs) and exploit the graphene unique properties in high frequency (HF) applications. These devices utilize single layer graphene as the base material in the vertical hot-electron transistors. LÄS MER
4. Linear and Nonlinear Transport in Quantum Nanostructures
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, electron transport in mesoscopic semiconductor nanostructures, in particular so-called electron billiards or quantum dots, is studied. The thesis can be divided into two areas: the linear response regime of transport, and the nonlinear response regime of transport. LÄS MER
5. Modelling of Quantum Transport in Nanostructures
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, theoretical studies of the transport properties of three nanoscale systems: one-dimensional (1D) quantum wires (QWRs), zero-dimensional (0D), laterally confined, double-barrier resonant tunnelling structures (DBRTSs) and three-terminal ballistic junctions (TBJs), have been performed. In the first part of the thesis, an overview of the realization and properties of such systems is given along with a description of modelling tools used in the calculations. LÄS MER
