A large part of this disease burden is associated with alcohol use disorder (AUD), a diagnostic category characterized by excessive use in spite of negative consequences ("compulsive use"), a loss of control over intake, and choice of alcohol over natural rewards.     Sammanfattning : It is well-established that serotonin is involved in the regulation of mood and behaviour, partly implied by the therapeutic effect of prolonged treatment with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) on mood and anxiety disorders. However, the mechanisms behind the paradoxical exacerbation of anxiety described during initial treatment, as well as behind the therapeutic effects of prolonged treatment with SSRIs, remain poorly understood.     Sammanfattning : All normal functions over the lifetime of an animal are based on a dynamic balance of at least three fundamental elements: brain, environment and behaviour.     Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis investigated the effect of two aquatic pollutants on the behavior and physiology of teleost fish: i) elevated concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the context of ocean acidification and ii) low concentrations of the anxiolytic pharmaceutical oxazepam in the context of pharmaceutical pollution.Anthropogenic emissions of CO2 are lowering the pH of the oceans.
