1. Overlapping Neural Substrates of Alcohol- and Anxiety-Related Behavior in the Rat
Sammanfattning : Alcohol use is a leading cause of death and disease worldwide. A large part of this disease burden is associated with alcohol use disorder (AUD), a diagnostic category characterized by excessive use in spite of negative consequences ("compulsive use"), a loss of control over intake, and choice of alcohol over natural rewards. 2. The effects of some peptide hormones on osteoblast-like cells : with specific focus on oxytocin and vasopressin
Sammanfattning : The nonapeptides oxytocin (OXT) and vasopressin (AVP) are mainly produced in the hypothalamus and released into the circulation through the neurohypophysis. Recently, an OXT-receptor was demonstrated in human osteoblast-like (hOB) cells, and it has been suggested that patients with central diabetes insipidus (deficiency of AVP) have decreased bone mass. 3. Nitric oxide in central nervous structures associated with water balance and micturition
Sammanfattning : The role of nitric oxide (NO) in the central control of water balance and micturition has not yet been established. In the present thesis, where female rats were used, neuronal NO synthase (nNOS) distribution was studied in structures of the central nervous system known to be associated with the above mentioned control. 4. Keeping goats and kids together : focus on milk ejection, milk composition, curd yield and animal welfare
Sammanfattning : Milk with high concentrations of fat, total protein and casein is required for cheese production. The Swedish landrace goat produces milk with relatively low dry matter content. The explanation for this may be genetic factors in combination with unfavourable management and milking routines. LÄS MER
5. Effects of Denervation and Infravesical Obstruction in the Rat Urinary Bladder
Sammanfattning : Median micturition volume decreased early after partial outlet obstruction, 24 hrs total obstruction and hemidenervation. Degeneration release of transmitter may explain this, assuming that bladder wall distension causes nerve degeneration. LÄS MER
