1. The diverse role of laminin isoforms in neuronal cells, human mast cells and blood platelets
Sammanfattning : The close interaction of cells with other cells and with extracellular matrix (ECM) components is a prerequisite in a number of biological activities. During development of the nervous system, axons often navigate a considerable distance depending on the type of molecular factors they encounter. LÄS MER
2. The mutational landscape and microenvironment in myelodysplastic syndromes with deletion of chromosome 5q
Sammanfattning : Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) with deletion of chromosome 5q (del(5q) are malignant bone marrow disorders characterized by macrocytic anemia, chronic transfusion dependency and an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia. A high proportion of patients with lower-risk del(5q) myelodysplastic syndromes will respond to lenalidomide treatment, but more than 40% of patients have progressed to acute leukemia five years after starting treatment. 3. Angiogenesis in myeloproliferative disorders
Sammanfattning : The chronic myeloproliferative disorders, comprising polycythemia vera (PV), essential thrombocytosis (ET), chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) and myelofibrosis (MF), are all characterized by pathological angiogenesis in variable degrees, e.g. increased microvascular density (MVD) and bizarre vessel architecture. 4. Platelet angiogenic activities and their regulation on endothelial progenitor cell functions
Sammanfattning : Platelets are essential for haemostasis and thrombosis, but also play a major role in angiogenesis. Activated platelets recruit progenitor cells and induce differentiation into endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs), which contribute importantly to vascular regeneration and endothelium reparation. 5. Human Bone Marrow Microenvironment in Health and Disease
Sammanfattning : Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are safeguarded from various threats such as stress, injury, or radiationwithin specialized microenvironments or niches within the bone marrow. In this thesis, we investigatedvarious facets of the bone marrow (BM) microenvironment and its critical role in hematopoiesis andrelated disorders. LÄS MER
