11. Abdominal adhesions - clinical impact and experimental prevention
Sammanfattning : Intraabdominal adhesions are formed after most operations and a limited number of studies have to examine the long-term spectrum of adhesion-related disorders and the cost associated with this. Only a few numbers of antiadhesive agents are available which, however, do not decrease the actual morbidity that follows intraabdominal adhesions, such as small bowel obstruction, infertility and pain. 12. Gastrointestinal Physiology and Results following Bariatric Surgery
Sammanfattning : The number of operations for morbid obesity is rising fast. We have examined aspects of postoperative physiology and results after bariatric surgery. The pH in the proximal pouch after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGBP) was investigated with catheter-based and wire-less technique. LÄS MER
13. Coagulation, fibrinolysis and inflammation in open surgery for infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm
Sammanfattning : Elective repair of infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) carries a mortality of 4-8% and there is a substantial incidence of serious non-lethal complications. During surgery there is a situation of relative ischaemia and subsequent reperfusion of the lower part of the body. LÄS MER
14. The Role of Chlamydophila Pneumoniae in the Inflammatory Response and Expansion of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms
Sammanfattning : Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a common disease that develops gradually over several years and is characterised by weakening and dilatation of the aortic wall. AAAs also demonstrates a marked inflammatory infiltrate throughout the aortic wall. Chlamydophila pneumoniae (C. pneumoniae), is a common bacterium. LÄS MER
15. Evaluating an experimental model consecutive to abdominal wall hernia repair outcome
Sammanfattning : Background: Abdominal wall hernia is a common surgically treated condition. Patients with primary umbilical hernia are operated with suture or mesh repair, but recurrence and complication rates have been debated.Larger abdominal wall hernias need implantation of reinforcing material for repair. Synthetic implants are dominating. LÄS MER
