Sammanfattning : Gastric bypass achieves weight loss in the morbidly obese. Preoperative weight loss is used to reduce the enlarged fatty liver that otherwise reduces visibility during surgery. The purpose of gastric bypass is to provide patients with long-term weight loss. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Gastric bypass : Technical aspects and long-term results

Sammanfattning : Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGBP) achieves superior short- and long-term weight loss compared to other weight loss modalities. Different operative techniques have been developed to technically facilitate the surgical procedure, with consequences in the form of an array of postoperative complications and gastrointestinal symptoms. Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the effect of surgical weight loss on gut and adipose tissue peptides involved in appetite regulation and energy homeostasis in morbidly obese humans. Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGBP) is the gold standard operation used for effective long-term weight loss and improved health. LÄS MER
