  1. 1. Xenograft Rejection : A Study of Cytokine mRNA Expression in Experimental Models

    Författare :Henrik Krook; Anthony Dorling; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Type 1 diabetes; Parkinson’s disease; xenotransplantation; islets; neural tissue; heart; mRNA; cytokines; rejection.; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Clinical Immunology; klinisk immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : Acute cellular xenograft rejection of ICCs triggered mRNA expression of proinflammatory cytokines (IL-1b and TNF-a), Th1 associated cytokines (IL-12p40, IL-2 and IFN-g) and Th2 associated cytokines (IL-4 and IL-10). The peak values and the kinetics of the mRNA expression indicated that acute cellular xenograft rejection is enhanced by the proinflammatory response and mediated by the Th1 associated response, whereas the function of the Th2 associated response most likely is to counteract the Th1 associated cytokines and thereby inhibit bystander damage by the delayed type hypersensitivity like rejection process. 2. 2. Experimental studies on xenograft rejection

    Författare :Guosheng Wu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The use of animal organs and tissues may provide a solution to the severe and worsening shortage of human grafts. The aims of the present experimental studies were to provide a better understanding of the rejection mechanisms and give new clues for prevention of xenorejection, thereby hopefully contributing to the development of clinical xenotransplantation. 3. 3. Pancreatic Cancer - Early Detection, Prognostic Factors, and Treatment

    Författare :Daniel Ansari; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; artificial neural networks; apicidin; centralization; early detection; epigenetics; high definition mass spectrometry; MUC4; pancreatic cancer; pancreaticoduodenectomy; prognostic factors; xenograft model; treatment;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related death. Only about 6% of patients are alive 5 years after diagnosis. One reason for this low survival rate is that most patients are diagnosed at a late stage, when the tumor has spread to surrounding tissues or distant organs. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The involvement of gangliosides in growth and migration of human glioblastoma cells

    Författare :Kristina Hedberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gangliosides synthesis; Ganglioside expression; Glioblastoma; Migration; Proliferation; Cell culture systems; Xenograft model;

    Sammanfattning : Human glioblastoma is a primary brain tumour with a bad prognosis. One major contributing factor is that the tumour grows in an infiltrative way. Single tumour cells, undetectable with today's techniques, invade the brain and escape therapy. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Restoration of scarred vocal folds with stem cell implantation : analyses in a xenograft model

    Författare :Bengt Svensson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Tissue defects in the vocal fold (VF) caused by trauma, surgical procedures, post radiotherapy, often heal with scar formation. The scar tissue causes stiffness of the lamina propria rendering disturbed viscoelastic properties to the VF. A scarred VF causes severe voice problems. LÄS MER
