1. Risk factors and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis : an epidemiologic approach
Sammanfattning : Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a debilitating and rare disorder; progressively the patient’s muscles go into paralyses limiting their ability to walk, do day-to-day tasks, and eat. This thesis covers risk factors related to ALS. LÄS MER
2. Intersubject variability in the processing of fearful faces in healthy adults
Sammanfattning : Threatening stimuli have a privileged status in the brain, meaning they receive priority in the processing stream. This makes sense from an evolutionary perspective where quickly and accurately identifying threat is necessary for survival. LÄS MER
3. Neuroinflammation in Alzheimer’s disease and obesity
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and obesity are both major problems in the western world. Although they may appear to have little in common at first glance, they are both characterized by chronic inflammation. Exactly how inflammation affects these disorders is far from clear. LÄS MER
4. Advancing the life cycle energy optimisation methodology
Sammanfattning : The Life Cycle Energy Optimisation (LCEO) methodology aims at finding a design solution that uses a minimum amount of cumulative energy demand over the different phases of the vehicle's life cycle, while complying with a set of functional constraints. This effectively balances trade-offs, and therewith avoids sub-optimal shifting between the energy demand for the cradle-to-production of materials, operation of the vehicle, and end-of-life phases. 5. ³²P-postlabelling analysis of DNA adducts in fish as a biomarker of genotoxic exposure
Sammanfattning : The 32P-postlabelling assay was used for analysis of hydrophobic DNA adducts in fish as a biomarker of genotoxic exposure. DNA adducts were analysed in perch (Perca fluviatilis) and northern pike (Esox lucius), two relatively stationary fish species which are common in Swedish freshwater systems and along the Baltic coast.
