21. Cold exposure and health : A study on neurological and vascular hand symptoms in northern Sweden
Sammanfattning : Background: Living in a cold climate is associated with several adverse health effects. The main purpose of this thesis was to describe cold exposure characteristics in northern Sweden, and investigate the associations between such exposure and the reporting of neurological and vascular hand symptoms. 22. Ultrasound Assessment and Vascular Mechanics in Takayasu Arteritis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
Sammanfattning : Takayasu arteritis (TAK) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are inflammatory diseases that primarily affect young women. TAK is a rare vasculitis that affects the aorta and its main branches, whereas SLE is a chronic autoimmune disease that effects multiple organs. LÄS MER
23. Abdominal Aortic Wall Mechanics - Stress, Strain and Stiffness in A Medical Perspective : An Experimental Study in Man
Sammanfattning : Background: The stiffness of the abdominal aorta is considered a significant factor affecting the morbidity and mortality of cardiovascular disease. Estimating vascular stiffness is an integral part in cardiovascular risk assessment. LÄS MER
24. Cardiac Performance, Ventricular-Vascular Interaction and Functional Alterations in Rheumatic Mitral Stenosis : A descriptive study employing novel hemodynamic and echocardiographic modalities
Sammanfattning : The assessment of LV performance poses significant challenges in the setting of rheumatic mitral stenosis (MS) owing to an inherently load-altered state. A detailed characterization of arterial-ventricular coupling between subjects with isolated post-capillary pulmonary hypertension (Ipc-PH) and combined pre- and post-capillary pulmonary hypertension (Cpc-PH) has not been described. 25. Risk factors for development of neurocognitive disorders
Sammanfattning : Vascular risk factors are believed to be involved in dementia development by increasing risk of the most common dementia types, Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and vascular dementia. The aim of this thesis was to study if risk factors affect key brain pathology directly, by using biomarkers for dementia in preclinical stages, and to assess previous findings in a large population-based setting.
