16. Distensibility in Arteries, Arterioles and Veins in Humans : Adaptation to Intermittent or Prolonged Change in Regional Intravascular Pressure
Sammanfattning : The present series of in vivo experiments in healthy subjects, were performed to investigate wall stiffness in peripheral vessels and how this modality adapts to iterative increments or sustained reductions in local intravascular pressures. Vascular stiffness was measured as changes in arterial and venous diameters, and in arterial flow, during graded increments in distending pressures in the vasculature of an arm or a lower leg. 17. Regulation of aortic wall mechanics and stress : An experimental study in man
Sammanfattning : The abdominal aorta (AA) in man is a vulnerable artery prone to atherosclerosis as well as aneurysmatic dilation. The underlying aortic composition, mechanical properties as well as the mechanisms responsible for age-related changes and vascular disease are however largely unknown. LÄS MER
18. The role of fibroblast growth factor-23 in chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder
Sammanfattning : Fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF23) was initially identified as the causative factor of autosomal dominant hypophosphatemic rickets. Further studies confirmed that FGF23 is predominantly expressed in the osteocytes and osteoblasts of bone and that circulating FGF23 acts on the kidney to inhibit renal phosphate reabsorption and 1,25(OH)2D3 hydroxylation. 19. Clinical aspects of arterial wall stiffness with a focus on abdominal aortic aneurysm
Sammanfattning : Background: Cardiovascular diseases are the most common type of age-related diseases and can affect health in several ways. As a result of increased life expectancy around the world, the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases is expected to increase. LÄS MER
20. Effects of cigarettes, e-cigarettes and Swedish snus on vascular function
Sammanfattning : Cigarette smoking is considered one of the leading causes of preventable morbidity and premature death worldwide. A large portion of this is attributable to cardiovascular disease such as ischemic heart disease and stroke. LÄS MER
