21. Purification and biodistribution of extracellular vesicles
Sammanfattning : Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are nano-sized vesicles that contain bioactive lipids, RNAs and proteins, which can be transferred to recipient cells. EVs are important for physiological as well as pathological processes, such as coagulation and immune homeostasis, aiding cancer metastasis and spread of infectious diseases. LÄS MER
22. Protein mass spectrometry in the drug discovery process
Sammanfattning : Most targets for drug discovery are proteins. Drug discovery includes target identification and validation, structural biology, lead generation, lead optimisation, pre-clinical development and clinical trials. The overall aim of this thesis is to apply protein mass spectrometry (MS) in the early drug discovery process. LÄS MER
23. Postprandial lipaemia and its relation to premature atherosclerosis in middle-aged men
Sammanfattning : The present research programme was set up to investigate whether pertubations of the metabolism of postprandial triglyceride-rich lipoproteins (TRLs) are related to premature atherosclerosis and to determine if treatment with a 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase inhibitor (atorvastatin) improves deranged alimentary lipaemia in postinfarction patients with combined hyperlipidaemia. The relation between plasma insulin and alimentary lipaemia was investigated as well. LÄS MER
24. Functional and structural properties of eukaryotic DNA polymerase epsilon
Sammanfattning : In eukaryotes there are three DNA polymerases which are essential for the replication of chromosomal DNA: DNA polymerase alpha (Pol alpha), DNA polymerase delta (Pol delta) and DNA polymerase epsilon (Pol epsilon). In vitro studies of viral DNA replication showed that Pol alpha and Pol delta are sufficient for DNA replication on both leading and lagging DNA strands, thus leaving the function of Pol epsilon unknown. 25. Developmental and stress induced changes in peptide and catecholamine content of the paraaortic paraganglia
Sammanfattning : The paraaortic body (PAB) is the largest extra-adrenal paraganglion and during the perinatal period it contains a substantial amount of catecholamines (CAs). The PAB also contain peptides, whose function in the PAB is not clear. LÄS MER
