16. Theoretical Studies on Electronic and Vibrationally Resolved Multi-Photon Absorption and Dichroism
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents time-dependent density functional theory studies on electronic and vibronically resolved linear and nonlinear optical absorption and dichroism spectra of organic molecules. Special attention has been paid to the influence of solvent environment and molecular vibrations on one-, two- and three-photon absorption and one- and two-photon circular dichroism. LÄS MER
17. Biosensor Studies of Ligand Interactions with Structurally Flexible Enzymes : Applications for Antiviral Drug Development
Sammanfattning : The use of a surface plasmon biosensor fills a missing link in kinetic studies of enzymes, since it measures directly the interaction between biomolecules and allows determination of parameters that are determined only indirectly in activity assays. The present thesis deals with kinetic and dynamic aspects of ligand binding to two viral enzymes: the human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) protease and the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 reverse transcriptase (HIV-1 RT). 18. Time-Lapse Microscopy Imaging and Image Analysis for Cell Migration Studies
Sammanfattning : This thesis considers a complete automatic system for in-vitro cell imaging and migration image analysis. The development of such can be divided into three main problems:The first considered problem concerns how to build a robust time-lapse sequence acquisition system, for imaging adult hippocampal cells in bright-field microscopy. 19. Spectroscopic studies of dynorphin neuropeptides and the amyloid beta-peptide : The consequences of biomembrane interactions
Sammanfattning : Dynorphin A, dynorphin B and big dynorphin are endogenous opioid neuropeptides. They play an important role in a wide variety of physiological functions such as regulation of pain processing and memory acquisition. Such actions are generally mediated through the κ-receptors. 20. Folding and Structure of Azurin - The Influence of a Metal
Sammanfattning : The structural role of the metal in the protein azurin from Pseudomonas aeruginosa has been a long standing question. Azurin belongs to the cupredoxin family and is a 128 residue beta-barrel protein of greek-key topology. LÄS MER
