  1. 1. Studies on Redox-proteins and Cytokines in inflammation and Cancer

    Författare :Akter Hossain; Anders Rosén; Christer Lindqvist; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Thioredoxin Trx ; Selenium; Tumor necrosis factor TNF ; Cancer; nflammation; oxidative stress; Protein-disulfide isomerase PDI ; Tumor necrosis factor receptor TNFR ; Medical cell biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The redox state in the cell plays a major role in determining vital functions and its major imbalance can lead to severe cell injury or death. Redox active proteins and cytokines involved in this process includes thioredoxin (Trx), protein disulfide isomerase (PDI), and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) superfamilies. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Importance of peripheral arterial disease as a risk marker in patients with myocardial infarction

    Författare :Birgitta Jönelid; Christina Christersson; Nina Johnston; Bertil Lindahl; Bertil Andrén; Lena Jonasson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Coronary heart disease; Peripheral artery disease; Polyvascular disease; Inflammatory biomarkers; TNFR-1; TNFR-2; GDF-15; Cardiovascular events.; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis was to describe the true prevalence of widespread arterial disease in a cohort with patients with a recent myocardial infarction (MI) to find valuable clinical methods to detect these patients. Our aim was also to investigate biomarker relationships with peripheral artery disease (PAD) and the importance of PAD in patients’ long-term outcomes. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Strategies for Identification of Susceptibility Genes in Complex Autoimmune Diseases

    Författare :Ludmila Prokunina; Marta Alarcon-Riquelme; Ulf Gyllensten; Juha Kere; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; complex diseases; autoimmune diseases; genetic mapping; functional studies; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are complex autoimmune diseases affecting 0.05-2% of the population worldwide. Genetic studies detected linkage with SLE in the 2q37 region, and intensive family-based and case-control association studies in several populations identified that allele A of the SNP PD-1. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Immunogenicity of and apoptosis modulation by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-encoded latent membrane protein-1 (LMP1) : implications for nasopharyngeal carcinoma

    Författare :Xiangning Zhang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a ubiquitous human herpesvirus which infects more than 90% of individuals in the population, and has been shown to be associated with a variety of human tumors. The viral genome encodes a number of transforming proteins which enable the virus to efficiently immortalize B lymphocyte and also transform cells of other types. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Immunomodulation and immunopathogenesis in autoimmune disease with emphasis on autoimmune neuritis and arthritis

    Författare :Lei Bao; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Experimental autoimmune neuritis (EAN) and arthritis are CD4+ T cell mediated autoimmune animal models for the study of immunomodulation and immunopathogenesis of human Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Inflammatory cell infiltration and cytokine production in the target organs are characteristic features of both diseases, suggesting a role of cytokine production in the pathogenesis. LÄS MER
