  1. 6. Foresight and Feedback: Monitoring and assessing the environmental implications of emerging technologies

    Författare :Duncan Kushnir; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; patent analysis; lithium; Foresight; topic model; monitoring; guidance; energy system; resource availability; environmental assessment;

    Sammanfattning : The magnitude of the change required to approach sustainability indicates an effort that will have to be sustained over decades, during which vast new technology systems will have to be developed and deployed. Yet technological development is a double edged sword, and these efforts will inevitably incur unintended consequences. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Essays in Empirical Finance: Volatility, Interdependencies, and Risk in Emerging Markets

    Författare :Anders C Johansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Emerging markets; Asia; China; Stock markets; Bond markets; Exchange rates; Causality; Cointegration; Multivariate GARCH; Dynamic correlation; Timescales; Wavelet analysis; Heterogeneous markets; Multivariate stochastic volatility; Markov chain Monte Carlo; Country risk; Conditional beta;

    Sammanfattning : The four essays in this thesis deal with emerging markets and their empirical characteristics. They mainly explore the relationship among different markets and the thesis cover several asset classes, including stocks, bonds, and exchange rates. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Development and application of competing risks and multi-state models in cancer epidemiology

    Författare :Nikolaos Skourlis; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Competing risks and multi-state models allow us to study complex disease settings and answer composite research questions and should be used more widely in epidemiology. This thesis aims to explore the competing risks and multi-state models areas using flexible parametric survival models (FPSMs), studying several aspects, such as the choice of timescale, choice of multi-state structure, sharing information across transitions by imposing restrictions in the estimation of the parameters, as well as communicating the results of such models to a wider audience and evaluating the use of recurrent multi-state structures in the area of recurrent events when a terminal event is present. 4. 9. Local structure and dynamics in proton conducting perovskite oxides: insights from quasielastic neutron scattering and infrared spectroscopy

    Författare :Elena Naumovska; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Perovskites; infrared spectroscopy.; quasielastic neutron scattering; proton- conducting oxides; proton dynamics;

    Sammanfattning : Proton conducting oxides have been extensively studied in the past decade due to their potential application in a number of energy related devices such as solid oxide fuel cells, hydrogen sensors, and steam electrolyzers. However, the final industrialisation of these materials depends on unlocking fundamental questions about the relationship between their atomic structure, localized proton dynamics and proton conductivity. 5. 10. The hidden half of the meadow : Interactions between drought, soil carbon, roots and soil microbial communities

    Författare :Daniela Guasconi; Gustaf Hugelius; Sara Cousins; Stefano Manzoni; Petra Fransson; David Johnson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; soil; soil carbon; soil ecology; roots; root traits; microbial communities; grasslands; climate change; drought; land management; compost; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : Soil is a hidden ecosystem which harbours plant roots and countless microorganisms, vital for sustaining life aboveground. These belowground communities provide essential ecosystem services like soil stabilisation and organic matter decomposition. LÄS MER
