  1. 21. Regulation of signaling molecules in sensory neurons and spinal cord : studies on nerve injury models and transgenic mice

    Författare :Tie-Jun Shi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Behaviour; cell loss; dorsal root ganglion; immunohistochemistry; in situ hybridization; mRNA; nerve injury; neuropathic pain; neuropeptides; nociception; primary sensory neuron; spinal cord.;

    Sammanfattning : Nerve injury may cause neuropathic pain in patients. Similar symptoms can also be seen in some animal models. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Neural progenitors for sensory and motor repair

    Författare :Jan Hoeber; Elena Kozlova; Linda Greensmith; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Regenerative Neurobiology; Stem cells; Sensory regeneration; Spinal cord injury; Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis; Neurodegeneration; Oxidative Stress; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Injury and neurodegenerative conditions of the spinal cord can lead to paralysis and loss of sensation. Cell therapeutic approaches can restore sensory innervation of the spinal cord following injury and protect spinal cord cells from degeneration. LÄS MER

  3. 23. On traumatic lesion to the spinal cord and dorsal spinal roots : factors influencing axonal regrowth across the border between the central and peripheral nervous system in the rat and man

    Författare :Tomas Lindholm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Immunohistochemistry; in situ hybridization; rat; man; axotomy; regeneration; motoneuron; ; CNS; PNS; tenascin; macrophages; BBB; scar; neuregulin; ErbB3 4; semaphorin; neuropilin; VEGF; olfactory system; DRG; DRT; SNT; SNC.;

    Sammanfattning : Nerve cells are depending on their environment. Glial cells, astrocytes and oligodendrocytes in the central nervous system (CNS) make up a totally different milieu and characteristics than the distinguishing qualities of the peripheral nervous system (PNS), where the nerve cells are surrounded by Schwann cells. 4. 24. Transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells and injections of microRNA as therapeutics for nervous system repair

    Författare :Mallappa K. Kolar; Lev N. Novikov; Paul J. Kingham; Mikael Wiberg; Elisabet Åkesson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; spinal cord injury; peripheral nerve injury; mesenchymal stem cells; regeneration; neurotrophic factor; angiogenic factor;

    Sammanfattning : Traumatic injuries to the spinal cord (SCI) and peripheral nerve (PNI) affect several thousand people worldwide every year. At present, there is no effective treatment for SCI and despite continuous improvements in microsurgical reconstructive techniques for PNI, many patients are still left with permanent, devastating neurological dysfunction. 5. 25. Mesenchymal stem cells for repair of the peripheral and central nervous system

    Författare :Maria Brohlin; Mikael Wiberg; Martin Birchall; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bone marrow-derived stromal cells; Schwann cells; Peripheral nerve injury; Spinal cord injury; Neurotransplantation; anatomi; Human Anatomy; cell research; cellforskning;

    Sammanfattning : Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) have been shown to provide neuroprotection after transplantation into the injured nervous system. The present thesis investigates whether adult human and rat MSC differentiated along a Schwann cell lineage could increase their expression of neurotrophic factors and promote regeneration after transplantation into the injured peripheral nerve and spinal cord.
