  1. 1. Bioactive Lipids in Nociception

    Författare :Anna Ermund; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :Cannabinoids; Anandamide; AM404; 2-Arachidonoylglycerol; Acetaminophen; Cyclooxygenase; Nocicieption; TRPV1;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on bioactive lipids as (1) metabolites of the widely used antipyretic and analgesic drug acetaminophen and (2) activators of the ion channel TRPV1, an important downstream target for inflammatory mediators, in the phospholipase C (PLC)/TRPV1 signaling pathway. Evidence is presented for a fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH)-dependent fatty acid conjugation of p-aminophenol, a known acetaminophen metabolite, to form the potent TRPV1 activator AM404 in the central nervous system. 2. 2. Spotting pain in the brain. Towards a useful animal model of pain

    Författare :Tanja Jensen; Neurofysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; analgesics; freely moving rat; microelectrode; Nociception; Primary somatosensory cortex; Sedatives;

    Sammanfattning : Current models of pain in conscious animals usually scores nocifensive responses. However, it is still unclear to what extent these responses are related to, for instance, the sensory discriminative or affective aspects of pain. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Acetylcholine in Spinal Pain Modulation : An in vivo Study in the Rat

    Författare :Klas Abelson; Urban Höglund; Ernst Brodin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Laboratory animals; Pain; Nociception; Antinociception; Acetylcholine; Muscarinic; Nicotinic; Spinal cord; Microdialysis; Försöksdjursvetenskap; Laboratory animal science; Försöksdjursvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The spinal cord is an important component in the processing and modulation of painful stimuli. Nerve signals from the periphery are relayed and further conducted to the brain (nociception) in the spinal cord, and the most essential modulation of painful information (antinociception) occurs here. 4. 4. Effects of repetitive work on proprioception and of stretching on sensory mechanisms : implications for work-related neuromuscular disorders

    Författare :Martin Björklund; Håkan Johansson; Albert Crenshaw; Ronny Lorentzon; Måns Magnusson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Repetitive motions; Muscle fatigue; Proprioception; Muscle stretching; Work-related musculoskeletal disorders; Nociception; Ergonomics; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of the thesis were (i) to investigate the impact of repetitive low-intensity work exposure on proprioception and (ii) to examine effects of muscle stretching (especially sensory effects and effects on muscle nociception) and to relate its application to the prevention, alleviation and/or treatment of work-related neuromuscular disorders. The effects of low-intensity repetitive work on the shoulder proprioception were tested in healthy subjects. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Somatosensory Circuits in the Central Nervous System

    Författare :Hannah M. Weman; Malin C. Lagerström; Sarah E. Ross; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glycine receptor alpha 3; urocortin 3; vesicular monoaminergic transporter 2; nociception; pruriception; spinal cord; somatosensory cortex; DREADD; rabies tracing; transcriptomics; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Spinal glycinergic neurons prevent spontaneous sensations of pain and itch, and development of persistent pain and itch conditions. The glycine receptor alpha 3 subunit (GLRA3) is suggested to be involved in certain inflammatory models, but not in acute nociception. LÄS MER
