  1. 1. Neuropilin-1 regulation of tumor vascularization and growth

    Författare :Eric Morin; Lena Claesson-Welsh; Hellmut Augustin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Angiogenesis; Neuropilin-1; VEGFR2; tumor biology; pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma; renal cell carcinoma; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels from existing ones, is dysregulated during tumor progression as a result of chronic hypoxia and inflammation. Such alterations lead to a lack of vessel hierarchy, and the formation of poorly perfused, leaky and blunt-ended vessels, contributing to disease progression. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) and Peripheral Nerve Regeneration

    Författare :Mariann Sondell; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Schwann cell; SCG; rat; peripheral nerve regeneration; neuropilin-1; nerve repair; mouse; growth factor; flk-1; axonal outgrowth; DRG; VEGF; Animal physiology; Djurfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its possible role as a neurotrophic factor. I have investigated the effect of VEGF on neurons in culture but also in vivo, following a crush lesion of the sciatic nerve, and following nerve repair. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Studies of the vascular endothelial growth factors, VEGFs, and their receptors, focusing on VEGF-B

    Författare :Birgitta Olofsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :vasculogenesis; angiogenesis; VEGF; VEGF-B; VEGF receptors; neuropilin;

    Sammanfattning : The inner lining of all blood- and lymphatic vessels are composed of endothelial cells. Their growth and differentiation are in part regulated by polypeptide growth factors and their receptors. LÄS MER

  4. 4. On traumatic lesion to the spinal cord and dorsal spinal roots : factors influencing axonal regrowth across the border between the central and peripheral nervous system in the rat and man

    Författare :Tomas Lindholm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Immunohistochemistry; in situ hybridization; rat; man; axotomy; regeneration; motoneuron; ; CNS; PNS; tenascin; macrophages; BBB; scar; neuregulin; ErbB3 4; semaphorin; neuropilin; VEGF; olfactory system; DRG; DRT; SNT; SNC.;

    Sammanfattning : Nerve cells are depending on their environment. Glial cells, astrocytes and oligodendrocytes in the central nervous system (CNS) make up a totally different milieu and characteristics than the distinguishing qualities of the peripheral nervous system (PNS), where the nerve cells are surrounded by Schwann cells. 5. 5. VEGFR-2 in Endothelial Differentiation and Vascular Organization

    Författare :Dan Edholm; Lena Claesson-Welsh; Xiujuan Li; Victoria Bautch; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Molecular medicine; Embryonic stem; VEGFR-2; Flk1; KDR; VEGF; vasculogenesis; angiogenesis; embryoid body; Molekylärmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : The cardiovascular system is the first functional organ to develop during embryogenesis. As the embryo reaches above a certain size, passive diffusion of gases and nutrients is no longer compatible with efficient growth. LÄS MER
