  1. 1. Stem Cell Transplantation in Dorsal Root Injury

    Författare :Carl Trolle; Elena Kozlova; Niklas Marklund; Karin Nordström; Michael Andäng; Mårten Risling; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Sensory Neuron; Regeneration; Spinal Root; Stem Cell; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : After traumatic injuries to the brachial plexus there is a risk that one or more of the spinal roots are torn from the spinal cord, known as avulsion injury. This often leads to paralysis and chronic pain, notoriously difficult to treat with current pharmacotherapy. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Effects of nucleus pulposus on nerve root circulation and function. Morphologic and functional studies in an experimental model using porcine spinal nerve roots

    Författare :Gunnar Byröd; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nerve root; dorsal root ganglion; intervertebral disc; nucleus pulposus; epidural space; nerve fibre; permeability; blood flow; sciatica;

    Sammanfattning : Sciatica due to lumbar disc herniation has for many decades been viewed as a consequence of mechanical compression exerted on spinal nerve roots by the bulging disc tissues. Recent research has, however, indicated that extruded nucleus pulposus (NP) from the intervertebral disc might cause functional and endoneurial morphological changes in spinal nerve roots, without mechanical compression. 3. 3. Stem cell transplantation and regeneration after dorsal root avulsion

    Författare :Carl Trolle; Elena Kozlova; Adam Reid; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Regeneration; dorsal root; sensory nerve; nerve injury; cell transplantation; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Spinal root avulsion leads to paralysis and loss of sensory function. Surgical methods can improve motor function and ameliorate pain but sensory recovery in adults is poor. Previous studies have shown that cell transplantation or treatment with trophic factors can improve functional outcome in rodents after dorsal root transection or crush. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Generation of functional neural progenitors for spinal cord transplantation

    Författare :Jan Hoeber; Elena Kozlova; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Regenerative Neurobiology; Stem cells; Sensory regeneration; Spinal cord injury; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Dorsal root avulsion injuries result in permanent impairment of sensory functions due to the disconnection of the peripheral nervous system from the spinal cord. Strategies aiming for the functional reconnection of sensory neurons with their targets in the spinal cord dorsal horn need to overcome the axonal growth non-permissive glial scar and provide a growth promoting environment. 5. 5. Cervical Radiculopathy: A Study With Selective Nerve Root Blocks

    Författare :Leif Anderberg; Neurokirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; orthopaedics; Contrast distribution; Nerve root block; Cervical radiculopathy; Kirurgi; traumatology; Treatment; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : Cervical radiculopathy is diagnosed by history, clinical examination of the patient and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the cervical spine. In many of the patients undergoing this diagnostic strategy, the nerve root/roots responsible for the radicular pain is difficult to define as clinical examination and MRI investigation does not provide information enough.
