16. On morbidity and mortality in novovirus infection
Sammanfattning : Norovirus causes epidemic gastroenteritis. The extent of excess mortality related to norovirus infections is not established and factors that influence the duration of viral shedding have not been determined. LÄS MER
17. Experimental studies of wind turbine wakes : power optimisation and meandering
Sammanfattning : Wind tunnel studies of the wake behind model wind turbines with one, two and three blades have been made in order to get a better understanding of wake development as well as the possibility to predict the power output from downstream turbines working in the wake of an upstream one. Both two-component hot-wire anemometry and particle image velocimetry (PIV) have been used to map the flow field downstream as well as upstream the turbine. LÄS MER
18. Numerical Study of Fluid-Structure Interaction with Application to Oscillating Cylinders
Sammanfattning : The problem of fluid-structure interaction, occurring in many industrial and engineering applications, are of great importance, since interaction of a flow and a structure in it can lead to serious damages of the structure. The fluid-structure interaction gives rise to a variety of different physical phenomena such as flow-induced vibration, noise generation, etc. LÄS MER
19. Dynamics of Exhaust Valve Flows and Confined Bluff Body Vortex Shedding
Sammanfattning : This thesis can be divided into two interconnected topics; engine exhaust-valve flows and confined bluff-body vortex shedding. When optimising engine flow systems it is common to use low order simulation tools that require empirical inputs, for instance with respect to flow losses across the exhaust valves. LÄS MER
20. Directed Evolution of Glutathione Transferases with Altered Substrate Selectivity Profiles : A Laboratory Evolution Study Shedding Light on the Multidimensional Nature of Epistasis
Sammanfattning : Directed evolution is generally regarded as a useful approach in protein engineering. By subjecting members of a mutant library to the power of Darwinian evolution, desired protein properties are obtained. Numerous reports have appeared in the literature showing the success of tailoring proteins for various applications by this method. LÄS MER
