1. Tracking single molecules in uncharted territory : A single-molecule method to study kinetics in live bacteria
Sammanfattning : The synthesis of proteins, also known as translation, is a fundamental process in every living organism. The steps in the translation of genetic information to functional proteins have been meticulously studied, mostly using in vitro techniques, yielding a detailed model of their mechanisms. LÄS MER
2. Studies of metazoan proteasome function and regulation
Sammanfattning : Biological processes depend upon the structural and functional quality of the molecules that comprise living organisms. The integrity of molecules such as DNA, RNA, proteins, carbohydrates and lipids is crucial and the precise three-dimensional shape and the detailed chemistry of these molecules orchestrate the biochemical processes vital for life. LÄS MER
3. Accessory factors for ribosomal assembly
Sammanfattning : The assembly of ribosomal RNA (rRNA) and ribosomal proteins (r-proteins) into ribosomal subunits (30S and 50S) is a complex process. Transcription of rRNA requires antitermination proteins and the primary transcripts are processed by ribonucleases. LÄS MER
4. The importance of maturation factors in 30S ribosomal subunit assembly
Sammanfattning : The assembly of the ribosome is a complex process that needs to be highly efficient to support maximum growth. Although the individual subunits of the ribosome can be reconstituted in vitro, such a reaction is inefficient in comparison to the assembly rate in vivo. LÄS MER
5. Studies of translation in E. coli
Sammanfattning : A cis-acting translational mutation in the beginning of the glnS gene was analyzed; this mutation creates a extra base pair to a proposed extended ribosome binding site. When increasing the complementarity to this extended ribosome binding site, it was demonstrated that the expression increased; correspondingly, when complementarity was decreasd the expression went down.
