  1. 21. Inflammation and neuroprotective strategies in the immature brain after hypoxic-ischemic brain injury

    Författare :Pernilla Svedin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :hypoxia-ischemia; LPS; immature; brain; inflammation; NAC; melatonin; G-2mPE; MMP-9; MMP-12;

    Sammanfattning : Perinatal brain injury, as a result of hypoxia-ischemia (HI) or infection/HI, is a major cause of acute mortality and neurological morbidity in infants and children. The mechanisms of perinatal HI are not fully understood, which makes it difficult to find effective treatment. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Differential effects of voluntary running on hippocampal plasticity in the adult rat brain

    Författare :Andrew Stuart Naylor; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :exercise; hippocampus; stress; progenitor proliferation; neurogenesis; trophic factors; frontal cortex; spatial memory; rat; pCREB; endogenous opioids;

    Sammanfattning : The continuation of neuronal birth from dividing neural stem cells in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus throughout adulthood is known to play an important role in maintaining normal hippocampal function, such as memory and learning. Negative alterations in the levels of adult neurogenesis have also been linked to several neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer s disease and mood disorders such as depression. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Dopamine receptors in the rat brain

    Författare :Mi Hillefors-Berglund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Dopamine D2 receptors; Dopamine D3 receptors; Rat; Autoradiography; [3H]7-OH-DPAT; [3H]PD 128907; Caudate-putamen; Subcortical limbic area; Islands of Calleja; CGS 21680; Toluene; Neurotensin; Asphyxia; Aging; Magnesium; GTP;

    Sammanfattning : Dopamine receptors belong to a large superfamily of G protein-coupled receptors and consist of the D1, D2, D3, D4, and D5 receptors. The D2, D3, and D4 receptors belong to the D2 receptor family which is characterized by having a large third cytoplasmic loop and a short C-terminus projecting into the cytosol, and by inhibiting the enzyme adenylyl cyclase. 4. 24. High-resolution Studies of mRNA Expression in Brain : A Search for Genes Differently Expressed in Schizophrenia

    Författare :Anja Castensson; Elena Jazin; Terence Speed; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; mRNA; gene expression; real-time RT-PCR; schizophrenia; 5-HT serotonin receptor 2C; brain; psychiatric genetics; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Gene expression differences between patients and controls can be used to find susceptibility genes and drug targets for a disease. High-resolution strategies are required because the differences between the investigated groups may be small and numerous factors may affect the mRNA quantity. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Stem cell based therapy of malignant brain tumors

    Författare :Daniel Bexell; Sektion IV; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neural stem cell; pericyte; mesenchymal stem cell; neuroblast; subventricular zone; cancer stem cell; rat; glioma; cancer;

    Sammanfattning : Malignant brain tumor is a highly invasive and vascularized cancer. Current forms of therapy are not curative and can, at best, prolong survival for patients with this disease. The mean survival is only around 15 months. LÄS MER
