  1. 16. 2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) disrupts vitamin A homeostasis in rodents : quantitative and mechanistic studies to support risk assessment

    Författare :Nick Fletcher; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : 2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) exposure is well-known to disrupt Vitamin A (retinoid) homeostasis in rats, resulting in decreased hepatic storage, as well as increased metabolism and excretion of retinoids. The aims of this thesis were (1) to clarify the species and strain sensitivity of TCDDinduced retinoid disruption and (2) to identify cellular targets of TCDD-induced retinoid disruption. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Thyroid hormone receptor expression in cardiovascular disease and pharmacology

    Författare :Shiva Shahrara; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :TR mRNA; amiodarone; propranolol; heart rate; Quantitative RT-PCR; Western blot; Northern blot; mRNA and protein distribution; chronic valvular disease; Mated cardiomyopathy; AT- I cardiomyocytes; mouse myocardium;

    Sammanfattning : The heart is a major target organ for thyroid hormone actions. Thyroid hormone exerts effects on the myocardium, which are mediated by specific nuclear receptors. The thyroid hormone receptors (TR) are members of the steroid hormone receptor superfamily. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Human secretoglobins in normal and neoplastic cells and tissues

    Författare :Anna Sjödin; Håkan Hedman; Roger Henriksson; Mårten Fernö; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; secretoglobins; mammaglobin; lipophilin; breast cancer; pituitary; sweat gland; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; onkologi; Oncology;

    Sammanfattning : Secretoglobins is a newly described polypeptide family that has gained a lot of interest in human cancer and inflammation research. Although the first secretoglobin polypeptide was discovered more than 30 years ago, their physiological function is still not known. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Messenger molecules and receptors in the human trigeminovascular system

    Författare :Mingyan Hou; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuropsykologi; Neurologi; neurofysiologi; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology;

    Sammanfattning : The initiation of a migraine attack involves a primary central nervous system dysfunction with subsequent activation of the trigeminovascular system. In trigeminal ganglia, the expression of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), substance P (SP) and nitric oxide synthase (NOS) have been demonstrated by immunocytochemistry. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Characterization of novel podocyte proteins in the glomerular filtration barrier

    Författare :Laleh Sistani; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The kidney is considered the most important organ of excretion eliminating the body from metabolic waste products. The nephron is the functional unit of the kidney, composed of a cluster of capillaries named glomerulus, and a tubular system. The blood is filtered in the glomerular capillaries across the glomerular filtration barrier. LÄS MER
