  1. 11. Standardization and application of quantitative PCR methods in patients with hematological malignancies

    Författare :Maria Malec; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Polymerase chain reaction; RQ-PCR; Minimal Residual Disease; Acute leukemia; Hodgkin s Lymphoma; cytokines;

    Sammanfattning : Using modem combination chemotherapy regimens, it has been possible to increase the rate of complete remission (CR) in acute lymphoblastic (ALL) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The major reason for treatment failure in acute leukemia (AL) is the resistance of leukemic blasts to chemotherapeutic agents, which is accompanied by an inability of the immune system to eradicate residual leukemic cells surviving initial treatment. 2. 12. Quantification of gene expression in single cells

    Författare :Martin Bengtsson; Islet cell physiology; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Biomedical sciences; Biomedicinska vetenskaper; quantitative gene expression analysis; single cell PCR; islets of Langerhans;

    Sammanfattning : Studies of apparently homogeneous cell populations and single cells often give highly divergent results. Cells exhibit varying responsiveness to stimuli and gene expression and they are in many aspects stochastic and unpredictable. We have developed a method to measure gene expression quantitatively in individual cells with real-time RT-PCR. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Minimal Residual Disease Assessment in Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

    Författare :Ingrid Thörn; Christer Sundström; Richard Rosenquist; Gisela Barbany; Johan Botling; Kjeld Schmiegelow; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia; minimal residual disease; IG TCR gene rearrangements; BCR-ABL1 fusion gene transcripts; real-time quantitative PCR; multicolor flow cytometry; Pathology; Patologi; Pathology; patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Traditionally, response to treatment in hematological malignancies is evaluated by light microscopy of bone marrow (BM) smears, but due to more effective therapies more sensitive methods are needed. Today, detection of minimal residual disease (MRD) using immunological and molecular techniques can be 100 times more sensitive than morphology. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Basic and translational studies of follicular thyroid neoplasia

    Författare :Theodoros Foukakis; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Follicular thyroid cancer; follicular thyroid adenoma; PAX8-PPARgamma; PPARgamma; PTEN; RAS; RASSF1A; NORE1A; TERT; quantitative RT-PCR; microarray; cancer biomarker;

    Sammanfattning : Thyroid tumors occur frequently in the general population and although the majority represents benign follicular adenomas (FTA), thyroid cancer constitutes 1% of all malignancies worldwide. Among the differentiated cancers, three main types are recognized, including the papillary and follicular forms (PTC and FTC) that originate from the follicular thyrocytes, and the medullary carcinoma that arises from the C-cells. 5. 15. Neuroblastoma incidence, biology and outcome : with special emphasis on quantitative analysis of tyrosine hydroxylase mRNA in blood and bone marrow

    Författare :Catarina Träger; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Neuroblastoma, the most common malignant disease of early childhood, accounts for 6% of childhood malignancies but is responsible for 9% of paediatric cancer related deaths. The tumour originates from cells in the neural crest and has a very heterogeneous clinical course. LÄS MER
