    Sammanfattning : Dietary fat quality influences the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. A low-grade inflammation is suggested to contribute to the disease development, often accompanied by obesity. Whereas n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) have been considered anti-inflammatory, n-6 PUFA have been proposed to act pro-inflammatory. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Fatty Acid Composition in Skeletal Muscle : Influence of Physical Activity and Dietary Fat Quality

    Författare :Agneta Andersson; Len Storlien; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Skeletal muscle; phospholipids; triglycerides; fatty acids; physical activity; lipid peroxidation; dietary fat quality; n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Geriatrics; geriatrik;

    Sammanfattning : Insulin sensitivity is related to the fatty acid profile of skeletal muscle. The aim of this thesis was to investigate whether physical activity and dietary fat quality, independent of each other, influence the fatty acid composition of the skeletal muscle lipids. LÄS MER

  3. 13. The role of the G protein-coupled receptor ChemR23 in cardiovascular inflammation

    Författare :Gonzalo Artiach Castañón; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular inflammation is a biological process characterized by the immune cell response to harmful stimuli within the cardiovascular system, wherein homeostasis is reestablished by neutralizing the insult and promoting the repair of the damaged tissue. However, a failure in the resolution of inflammation can lead to a maladaptive inflammatory response, contributing to the development of cardiovascular diseases such as aortic valve stenosis (AVS) and atherosclerosis, as well as vascular complications such as intimal hyperplasia. 4. 14. Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids Modifying Ion Channel Voltage Gating

    Författare :Sara Börjesson; Fredrik Elinder; Klaus Benndorf; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Voltage-gated ion channels play fundamental roles in neuronal excitability and therefore dysfunctional channels can cause disease. Epilepsy is such a disease, affecting about 1% of the population and being characterized by synchronous electric activity of large groups of neurons leading to various types of seizures. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Determinants and clinical implications of circulating fatty acids in individuals with chronic kidney disease

    Författare :Xiaoyan Huang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :chronic kidney disease;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have a high risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Adding to traditional risk factors, e.g., Framingham risk factors, novel risk factors including inflammation, insulin resistance (IR) and metabolic syndrome (MetS) are being detected in patients with advanced CKD.
