21. Role of Fatty Acid Composition in Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: a Dietary Perspective : Results from Interventional and Observational Studies
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this doctoral thesis was to investigate the role of circulating, liver and dietary fatty acids in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). For circulating and liver fatty acids, special emphasis was given to fatty acids reflecting diet. LÄS MER
22. Dietary Intake, Fatty Acid Biomarkers, and Abdominal Obesity : Population-Based Observational Studies
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate the associations between fatty acid (FA) biomarkers, carbohydrate intake, and abdominal obesity (AO) and related anthropometric measures in a population-based cohort of men and women in Stockholm County. The overall hypothesis was that dietary fat quality assessed by serum and adipose tissue FA composition, and dietary intake of especially carbohydrates is associated with AO. LÄS MER
23. The role of crustacean zooplankton in pelagic nutrient cycling
Sammanfattning : Herbivorous crustacean zooplankton link phytoplankton and other microorganisms withhigher trophic levels in pelagic food webs. Crustaceans show little intraspecificvariation in somatic C:N:P elemental ratios, which may have implications for theregulation of zooplankton growth and for nutrient cycling. LÄS MER
24. Diet and the risk of latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) : studies on the association with fish and sweetened beverages
Sammanfattning : Diabetes is an increasing public health problem affecting a breathtaking number of people worldwide. The knowledge about modifiable lifestyle factors influencing diabetes risk is extensive for type 2 diabetes, but limited for autoimmune forms of diabetes such as type 1 diabetes. LÄS MER
25. Food Quality Effects on Zooplankton Growth and Energy Transfer in Pelagic Freshwater Food Webs
Sammanfattning : Poor food quality can have large negative effects on zooplankton growth and this can also affect food web interactions. The main aims of this thesis were to study the importance of different food quality aspects in Daphnia, to identify potentially important differences among zooplankton taxa, and to put food quality research into a natural context by identifying the importance of food quality and quantity in lakes of different nutrient content.
