16. Polymorphic protein aggregation in tauopathies
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease(s) comprises one of the most common and costly neurodegenerative diseases. With a larger population and an increasing life expectancy, amyloid diseases (with age as one of the most prominent risk factors) will generate an even larger burden on healthcare. LÄS MER
17. PET and the Multitracer Concept: An Approach to Neuroimaging Pathology
Sammanfattning : Patients suffering from different forms of neurodegenerative diseases, such as: Creutzfeldt Jacob Disease (CJD), Alzheimer disease (AD), mild cognitive impairment (MCI), frontotemporal dementia and Parkinson’s disease (PD) were examined with Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and the combination of different radiotracers: 15O-water, N-[11C-methyl]-L-deuterodeprenyl (DED), [18F] 2-fluorodeoxyglucose: (FDG), N-methyl-[11C]2-(4-methylaminophenyl)-6-hydroxybenzothiazole (PIB) and L-[11C]-3,4-dihydroxiphenyl-alanine (DOPA). The radiotracers and the combinations of different radiotracers were selected with the intention to detect, in the brain, patterns of neuronal dysfunction, astrocytosis, axon degeneration or protein aggregation (amyloid), in the brain which are pathognomonic for specific diseases and may contribute to improve clinical differential diagnoses. 18. The heart in hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis : clinical studies on the impact of amyloid fibril composition
Sammanfattning : Background Hereditary transthyretin amyloid (ATTRm) amyloidosis is a systemic disease mainly affecting the peripheral nervous system and the heart. The disease is inherited in an autosomal dominant manner with a varying penetrance. It is caused by mutations in the transthyretin (TTR) gene. Today more than 100 disease causing mutations are known. 19. Characterization of the novel “Uppsala mutation” causing a familial form of early onset Alzheimer’s disease
Sammanfattning : The Alzheimer’s disease (AD) brain displays extracellular plaques of amyloid-β (Aβ), neurofibrillary tangles of tau and neuronal loss. The 40-42 amino acid Aβ peptide is formed from the amyloid precursor protein (APP) by β-secretase and γ-secretase, while α-secretase prevents Aβ generation. LÄS MER
20. Sharing the doughnut : Exploring sustainable and just futures
Sammanfattning : Despite decades of international discussions or summits on the need to radically reduce e.g. increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases (GHGs) or biodiversity loss, these are still rising. LÄS MER
