1. PET and the Multitracer Concept: An Approach to Neuroimaging Pathology
Sammanfattning : Patients suffering from different forms of neurodegenerative diseases, such as: Creutzfeldt Jacob Disease (CJD), Alzheimer disease (AD), mild cognitive impairment (MCI), frontotemporal dementia and Parkinson’s disease (PD) were examined with Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and the combination of different radiotracers: 15O-water, N-[11C-methyl]-L-deuterodeprenyl (DED), [18F] 2-fluorodeoxyglucose: (FDG), N-methyl-[11C]2-(4-methylaminophenyl)-6-hydroxybenzothiazole (PIB) and L-[11C]-3,4-dihydroxiphenyl-alanine (DOPA). The radiotracers and the combinations of different radiotracers were selected with the intention to detect, in the brain, patterns of neuronal dysfunction, astrocytosis, axon degeneration or protein aggregation (amyloid), in the brain which are pathognomonic for specific diseases and may contribute to improve clinical differential diagnoses. 2. The matter of white matter in Alzheimer's disease. -On white matter disease from neuropathology and neuroimaging to clinical presentation
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most prevalent type of dementing disorder. The cortical pathology of AD has been recognized for almost a century. In later years, an associated pathological feature of AD has been identified which affects the white matter. LÄS MER
3. Neuroimaging biomarkers in Alzheimer’s disease
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is characterized by an accumulation of abnormal plaques and tangles in the brain, a process that is estimated to begin years before the appearance of clinical symptoms. Individuals with subjective memory decline (SMD) or mild cognitive impairment (MCI) run a higher risk of developing AD than cognitively normal (CN) people. LÄS MER
4. Histopathological and neuroimaging studies in partial epilepsy with emphasis on malformations of cortical development
Sammanfattning : The aim of the first part of the present study was to describe the whole Göteborg epilepsy surgery series between 1987 and 1995 with respect to surgical procedures, histopathological findings and clinical correlates. We found a high proportion of malformations of cortical development (MCD) and patients with MCD were studied in further detail in the following studies. LÄS MER
5. New perspectives on pathology in Huntington's disease - characterization of hypothalamic changes
Sammanfattning : Huntington’s disease (HD) is a neurodegenerative disorder caused by an expansion of the CAG repeat in the huntingtin gene. Non-motor symptoms and signs such as psychiatric disturbances and metabolic dysfunction are also part of the disease manifestation. These symptoms often precede the motor symptoms by decades. LÄS MER
