21. Neural Stem Cell Differentiation and Migration
Sammanfattning : Neural stem cells are the precursors of neurons, astrocytes and oligodendrocytes. During neural development, the division of stem cells takes place close to the lumen of the neural tube, after which they migrate to their final positions within the central nervous system (CNS). 22. Neural Stem and Progenitor Cells : Cellular Responses to Known and Novel Factors
Sammanfattning : Neural stem cell self-renewal and differentiation are tightly regulated events during CNS development, leading to cell division into new neural stem cells or the formation of neurons and glial cells. This thesis focuses on the cellular responses induced by known and novel factors in neural stem and progenitor cells (NSPCs). LÄS MER
23. A Short Thesis about Growth Factors in Gliomas
Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common form of primary brain tumor in humans. Its aggressive and infiltrative growth into the brain, and, at best, only partial sensitivity to radiotherapy and chemotherapy, renders it extremely difficult to treat and survival remains dismal. 24. The Roles of Growth Factor Interactions and Mechanical Tension in Angiogenesis
Sammanfattning : Angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels from preexisting ones through creation of new vessel branch points by sprouting or vessel splitting, is an important part of tissue growth in both physiological processes like wound healing and pathological conditions such as cancer. Growth factors like VEGF-A, FGF-2 and PDGF-BB are involved in both types of angiogenesis. LÄS MER
25. Interplay Between Cell of Origin and Oncogenic Activation in Glioma
Sammanfattning : Glioma is the most frequent primary tumor of the central nervous system. By using the RCAS/tv-a mouse glioma model, we have studied mechanisms controlling glioma development and the effect of cell of origin on these processes.SOX5 was identified as a brain tumor locus in a retroviral insertional mutagenesis screen of PDGF-B induced mouse gliomas.
