  1. 21. Development of Encapsulated UN-UO₂ Accident Tolerant Fuel

    Författare :Diogo Ribeiro Costa; Pär Olsson; Janne Wallenius; Simon Middleburgh; Magnus Limbäck; Denise Adorno Lopes; Ho Jin Ryu; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Accident tolerant fuel; UN-UO2 composite fuel; coating technology; powder coating; chemical vapour deposition CVD ; physical vapour deposition PVD ; UN spheres; spark plasma sintering; Kärnenergiteknik; Nuclear Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Accident tolerant fuels (ATFs) are designed to endure a severe accident in the reactor core longer than the standard UO2-Zr alloy systems used in light water reactors (LWRs). Composite fuels such as UN-UO2 are being considered as an ATF concept to address the lower oxidation resistance of the UN fuel from a safety perspective for use in LWRs, whilst improving the in-reactor behaviour of the UO2 fuel. 2. 22. Dynamics of Spent Nuclear Fuel Dissolution : Impact of Catalysis, Matrix Composition and Time Evolution

    Författare :Annika Carolin Maier; Mats Jonsson; Christophe Jégou; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Worldwide, nuclear power produces a large portion of the electricity that we consume every day. While nuclear energy comes with certain advantages, waste originating from its use is of particular concern. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Radiation Detection Techniques for the Enhancement of Nuclear Safety

    Författare :Petty Bernitt Cartemo; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; whole body counting; depth profiling; voxel phantom; nuclear safeguards; Monte Carlo; orphan sources; radiation-induced material damage; pulsed beam; positron lifetime;

    Sammanfattning : The hazard originating from the use of nuclear materials in various areas of the society necessitates a number of experimental techniques for controlling and increasing the safety connected to radioactive substances.The following thesis is divided into two parts, representing different aspects to the detection of radiation effects. 4. 24. Dissolution of fluorite type surfaces as analogues of spent nuclear fuel : Production of suitable analogues and study the effect of surface orientation on dissolution

    Författare :Jose Godinho; Sandra Piazolo; Tonci Balic-Zunic; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluorite; spent nuclear fuel; crystal structure; CeO2; CaF2; crystal orientation; topography; confocal profilometry; Mineralogy; Mineralvetenskap; Geology; geologi;

    Sammanfattning : It is accepted worldwide that the best final solution for spent nuclear fuel is to bury it in deep geological repositories. Despite the physical and chemical barriers that are supposed to isolate the nuclear waste for at least 100.000 years, some uncertainty factors may cause underground water to get in contact with the nuclear waste. 5. 25. Plasma-Facing Components in Tokamaks : Material Modification and Fuel Retention

    Författare :Darya Ivanova; Marek Rubel; Bernard Pégourié; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magnetic confinement fusion; plasma-facing components; plasma-facing materials; fuel inventory; erosion and deposition;

    Sammanfattning : Fuel inventory and generation of carbon and metal dust in a tokamak are perceived to be serious safety and economy issues for the steady-state operation of a fusion reactor, e.g. ITER. LÄS MER
