21. Development of Encapsulated UN-UO₂ Accident Tolerant Fuel
Sammanfattning : Accident tolerant fuels (ATFs) are designed to endure a severe accident in the reactor core longer than the standard UO2-Zr alloy systems used in light water reactors (LWRs). Composite fuels such as UN-UO2 are being considered as an ATF concept to address the lower oxidation resistance of the UN fuel from a safety perspective for use in LWRs, whilst improving the in-reactor behaviour of the UO2 fuel. 22. Dynamics of Spent Nuclear Fuel Dissolution : Impact of Catalysis, Matrix Composition and Time Evolution
Sammanfattning : Worldwide, nuclear power produces a large portion of the electricity that we consume every day. While nuclear energy comes with certain advantages, waste originating from its use is of particular concern. LÄS MER
23. Radiation Detection Techniques for the Enhancement of Nuclear Safety
Sammanfattning : The hazard originating from the use of nuclear materials in various areas of the society necessitates a number of experimental techniques for controlling and increasing the safety connected to radioactive substances. The following thesis is divided into two parts, representing different aspects to the detection of radiation effects. 24. Dissolution of fluorite type surfaces as analogues of spent nuclear fuel : Production of suitable analogues and study the effect of surface orientation on dissolution
Sammanfattning : It is accepted worldwide that the best final solution for spent nuclear fuel is to bury it in deep geological repositories. Despite the physical and chemical barriers that are supposed to isolate the nuclear waste for at least 100.000 years, some uncertainty factors may cause underground water to get in contact with the nuclear waste. 25. Plasma-Facing Components in Tokamaks : Material Modification and Fuel Retention
Sammanfattning : Fuel inventory and generation of carbon and metal dust in a tokamak are perceived to be serious safety and economy issues for the steady-state operation of a fusion reactor, e.g. ITER. LÄS MER
