  1. 1. Fundamentals of substructure dynamics : In-situ experiments and numerical simulation

    Författare :Verity Borthwick; Sandra Piazolo; Dorte Juul Jensen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; halite; in-situ; X-ray diffraction; EBSD; annealing; substructure; modelling; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Geology; geologi;

    Sammanfattning : Substructure dynamics incorporate all features occurring on a subgrain-scale. The substructure governs the rheology of a rock, which in turn determines how it will respond to different processes during tectonic changes. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Dissolution of fluorite type surfaces as analogues of spent nuclear fuel : Production of suitable analogues and study the effect of surface orientation on dissolution

    Författare :Jose Godinho; Sandra Piazolo; Tonci Balic-Zunic; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluorite; spent nuclear fuel; crystal structure; CeO2; CaF2; crystal orientation; topography; confocal profilometry; Mineralogy; Mineralvetenskap; Geology; geologi;

    Sammanfattning : It is accepted worldwide that the best final solution for spent nuclear fuel is to bury it in deep geological repositories. Despite the physical and chemical barriers that are supposed to isolate the nuclear waste for at least 100.000 years, some uncertainty factors may cause underground water to get in contact with the nuclear waste. 3. 3. A surface approach to understanding the dissolution of fluorite type materials : Implications for mineral dissolution kinetic models

    Författare :José Ricardo Assunção Godinho; Sandra Piazolo; Andreas Lüttge; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dissolution; topography; fluorite; surface; geokemi; Geochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Traditional dissolution models are based in the analyses of bulk solution compositions and ignore the fact that different sites of a surface dissolve at different rates. Consequently, the variation of surface area and surface reactivity during dissolution are not considered for the calculation of the overall dissolution rate, which is expected to remain constant with time. 4. 4. How do fluids move through rocks? : High fluxes of CO2 in the Earth's crust

    Författare :Barbara Kleine; Alasdair Skelton; Iain Pitcairn; Sandra Piazolo; Jaroslaw Majka; Zhihong Zhao; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; metamorphic fluid flow; blueschist preservation; fluid-rock interaction; Geology; geologi;

    Sammanfattning : Metamorphic hydrous, CO2-bearing fluids play a critical role in the global carbon cycle. However, how big this influence is on the global carbon cycle and therefore on global climatic processes, is unknown. The actual amount of CO2 which is released into the atmosphere due to metamorphic processes is still debated. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Deformation behaviour and chemical signatures of anorthosites: : Examples from southern West Greenland and south-central Sweden

    Författare :Henrik Svahnberg; Sandra Piazolo; Anders Scherstén; Holger Stünitz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; anorthosite; plagioclase; deformation; strain localisation; fluid-rock interaction; electron backscatter diffraction EBSD ; Solid earth geology and petrology; Berggrundsgeologi och petrologi; Mineralogy; Petrology and Geochemistry; mineralogi; petrologi och geokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Plagioclase is the most abundant mineral in the lower crust and it is thus important to constrain the behaviour of plagioclase during deformation. Anorthosites, which are plagioclase-rich rocks, are common in Archaean cratons but their origin and rheological importance is still debated. LÄS MER
