1. Applications of Ion Beam Methods in Silicide/Si and Silicide/GaAs Nanometre Structures
Sammanfattning : Ion beam methods are used to analyse material (Ion Beam Analysis, IBA) and to modify the target (Ion Beam Modification of Materials, IBMM). In this thesis, ion beams have been used in various IBA techniques to investigate the surface nanometre structures, and also in an ion beam synthesis (IBS) technique to form thin films and to modify material properties. 2. Radiation Detection Techniques for the Enhancement of Nuclear Safety
Sammanfattning : The hazard originating from the use of nuclear materials in various areas of the society necessitates a number of experimental techniques for controlling and increasing the safety connected to radioactive substances. The following thesis is divided into two parts, representing different aspects to the detection of radiation effects. 3. Pulsed laser ablation studied using digital holography
Sammanfattning : Pulsed digital holographic interferometry has been used to study the plume and the shock wave generated in the laser ablation process on different targets under atmospheric air pressure. A pulsed Nd-YAG laser system (pulse duration 12 ns) has been used both for ablating the material (wavelength 1064 nm) and for measurement (wavelength 532 nm). LÄS MER
4. Applications of pulsed lasers for phase transformation and welding
Sammanfattning : This work deals with the interaction of pulsed laser radiation with solid, metallic materials at moderate and very high power densities. The interaction mechanism depends upon the properties of both the laser and the target material. LÄS MER
5. Investigation of Nuclear Materials with Positron Measurements
Sammanfattning : Positron Annihilation Lifetime Spectroscopy can be used to characterize radia- tion-induced material defects to subsequently optimize nuclear materials with respect to radiation damage. Nuclear Systems of the future such as Generation IV and fusion concepts demand high performance from structural materials, comprising a material's stability in highly-radiative and hot environments.
