1. Enamel of primary teeth - morphological and chemical aspects
Sammanfattning : Enamel is one of the most important structures of the tooth, both from a functional and esthetic point of view. Primary enamel carries registered information regarding metabolic and physiological events that occurred during the period around birth and the first year of life. LÄS MER
2. Targeted gene transfer in the developing central nervous system using viral vectors
Sammanfattning : Dopamine (DA) is a neurotransmitter that plays a fundamental role in many aspects of normal brain function. The majority of DA neurons in the brain reside in one region ? the midbrain ? and project axonal connections to specific areas. One of the main target regions of the DA system is the striatum. 3. In vivo properties of neural stem cells after transplantation into the rat brain-Studies of phenotypic differentiation and functional integration using cell-specific labelling and electrophysiological techniques
Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, we have examined the in vivo properties of in vitro expanded human and rat neural stem-and progenitor cells after transplantation into the neonatal and adult rat brain. The survival and differentiation of the grafted cells were assessed using species-specific antisera, and pre-labelling with the reporter gene green fluorescent protein (GFP). LÄS MER
4. Kangaroo Mother Care in Bangladesh : Experiences of Caregivers and Healthcare Providers
Sammanfattning : Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) is an evidence-based intervention, recommended by the World Health Organization, with the potential to prevent neonatal deaths and morbidity among low-birthweight and preterm babies. In Bangladesh, where the number of neonatal deaths is high, KMC is identified as a priority intervention to be scaled up in the country. LÄS MER
5. Studies on experimental neonatal CNS infection : implications for neuropsychiatric disorders
Sammanfattning : Despite extensive research the etiologies of neuropsychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia remain obscure. It is currently believed that complex interactions between a number of genetic and environmental risk factors contribute to the development of these disorders. LÄS MER
