  1. 16. Adaptive Finite Element Methods for the Reynolds Thin Film Model with Cavitation

    Författare :Bertil Nilsson; Sweden Gothenburg Chalmers University of Technology Department of Applied Mechanics; []
    Nyckelord :tribology; Reynolds equation; cavitation; FEM; adaptivity; variational inequality; penalty formulation; error estimation; residual; duality;

    Sammanfattning : The main purpose of this thesis is to use modern goal-oriented adaptive finite element techniques in order to improve the numerical simulation of tribology. Two novel adaptive finite element methods for the Reynolds thin film model including cavitation are presented and their different strategies are compared. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Isotope Ratio and Trace Element Measurements Using Inductively Coupled Plasma – Mass Spectrometry : Method Development and Applications in Environmental Forensics

    Författare :Simon Pontér; Anders Widerlund; Hjalmar Laudon; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Isotope ratio measurements; screening analysis; ICP-MS; MC-ICP-MC; multi-tracer studies; fractionation; Environmental Forensics; Tracing; Tillämpad geokemi; Applied Geochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Environmental Forensics is a scientific methodology developed for identifying sources, the timing of release, and transport pathways for potentially hazardous environmental contaminants. It combines a variety of analytical methods with principles derived from disciplines such as chemistry, geology, geochemistry, hydrogeology, and statistics, with the purpose to provide objective scientific and legal conclusions on the source and/or time of a contaminant release. 3. 18. Terrain machine learning

    Författare :Viktor Wiberg; Martin Servin; Tomas Nordfjell; Eddie Wadbro; Todor Stoyanov; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; multibody dynamics simulation; rough terrain vehicle; autonomous vehicles; robotics control; discrete element method; sim-to-real; reinforcement learning; fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : The use of heavy vehicles in rough terrain is vital in the industry but has negative implications for the climate and ecosystem. In addition, the demand for improved efficiency underscores the need to enhance these vehicles' navigation capabilities. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Sustainability-, Buildability- and Performance-driven Structural Design

    Författare :Alexandre Mathern; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; sustainability; structural engineering; civil engineering; design method; finite element analysis; concrete structures; material developments; buildability; performance; structural developments; requirements; construction technology; integrated design; bridges; constructability;

    Sammanfattning : The construction, maintenance and operation of infrastructure networks represent substantial impacts, both positive and negative, in all three dimensions of sustainability: economic, social and environmental. The greatest possibility to reduce the negative impacts and increase the positive ones is at the early design stage of construction projects. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Improved performance characteristics of induction machines with non-skewed symmetrical rotor slots

    Författare :Rathna Chitroju; Chandur Sadarangani; Kelvin C Maliti; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; skewing; cross current losses; radial magnetic forces; magnetic noise; asymmetrical rotor slots; eccentricity; stator vibration; two-dimensional fast fourier transform; finite element method; Electrical engineering; electronics and photonics; Elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik;

    Sammanfattning : Induction machines convert more than 55% of electrical energy into various other forms in industrial and domestic environments. Improved performance, especially by reduction of losses in induction machines hence can significantly reduce consumption of electricity. LÄS MER
