1. Aqueous geochemistry of pit lakes : two cases studies at Rävlidmyran and Udden, Sweden
Sammanfattning : Two abandoned pit lakes in northern Sweden were studied in order to improve the understanding of the geochemistry of pit lakes, Rävlidmyran Pit Lake and Udden Pit Lake. Both lakes show strong similarity with other mining lakes in terms of low pH and high metal and sulphate contents. LÄS MER
2. Nitrogen Cycling at Cold Climate Mine Sites in Northen Sweden
Sammanfattning : High nitrogen discharge from mining sites has been an environmental issue that has been closely studied in the recent years. The environmental effects of high nitrogen discharge are mainly eutrophication, but can also lead to changed species composition and algae blooms. LÄS MER
3. Hydrogeochemical effects of hydropower regulation on river-aquifer continuum in boreal rivers
Sammanfattning : Hydropower infrastructure affects many large rivers worldwide, threatening riverine and coastal ecosystems by fragmenting flow, disturbing landscapes and water retention and altering sedimentation and primary production. This thesis investigated major impacts of hydropower regulation on hydrological and geochemical processes in large boreal rivers. LÄS MER
4. Fractionation of the stable silicon isotopes studied using MC-ICP-MS : analytical method developments and applications in geochemistry
Sammanfattning : In spite of the high Si abundance in natural systems, expected significant mass-dependent fractionations, and the importance of the element in many areas of the Earth sciences (focusing on e.g. LÄS MER
5. Fractionation of Fe and Zn isotopes : methods and some applications in aqueous geochemistry
Sammanfattning : Multiple collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (MC-ICPMS) has been used for the measurement of Fe and Zn isotope ratios in a variety of sample types including natural and synthetic waters, ferromanganese concretions, sediments and biological material. The focus of this PhD study was the development of analytical procedures for precise and accurate measurement of Fe and Zn isotope ratios by high resolution MC-ICPMS. LÄS MER
