26. The use of peptides for studying molecular events in HIV- and HSV-infections
Sammanfattning : Synthetic peptides were used as tools in order to study various characteristic sof human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and herpes simplex virus (HSV). Peptides were designed as multiple antigenic peptides (MAPs) and used as HIV vaccines in experimental animals. The included HIV epitopes were more immunogenic when immunized as MAPs than as a protein. LÄS MER
27. Structural Studies of Large dsDNA Viruses using Single Particle Methods
Sammanfattning : Structural studies of large biological assemblies pose a unique problem due to their size, complexity and heterogeneity. Conventional methods like x-ray crystallography, NMR, etc. are limited in their ability to address these issues. To overcome some of these limitations, single particle methods were used. LÄS MER
28. Structural and functional studies of biomolecules with NMR and CD spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : Experimentally derived biomolecular structures were determined by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). The properties of selected peptides and proteins in solution and in membrane mimicking micelles were observed by circular Dichroism (CD), mass spectrometry (MS), and other spectroscopic techniques. 29. Temperature-dependent structure and function of group A streptococcal M proteins
Sammanfattning : Temperature-dependent structure and function of group A streptococcal M proteins. This thesis describes the temperature-dependent structure of the members in the group A streptococcal M protein family. M proteins are cell-surface proteins that are important for the bacterial virulence and bind to a diverse set of human plasma proteins. LÄS MER
30. Multiple functions of YopN in the Yersinia pseudotuberculosis type III secretion system : from regulation to in vivo infection
Sammanfattning : The type 3 secretion systems (T3SSs) are virulence mechanisms used by various Gram-negative bacteria to overcome the host immunity. They are often target-cell contact induced and activated. Activation results in targeting of virulence effector substrates into host cells. LÄS MER
